I did a 180km ride at the weekend, my longest so far. Neck was definitely the weak point and was quite sore after I'd finished. What I found helped was no handed riding, sitting up straight and stretching out just to get the muscles into a different position.

Bugger that I'll fall off

I did 105km on Sunday with 1500m of climbing and I was in agony again at about 90km. To be honest it's the descents that did it for me, obviously pointing downwards and having to extend my neck even further to look ahead.

When I've had neck pain before on my bikes, it's because my reach to the bars was too stretched so I experimented with flipping my stem and trying shorter stems until it felt comfortable.
  • I used to suffer from neck pain on my bike...... I cured it by lowering my handlebars. Lots of people say raise the front end, which I tried, but lowering the bars meant I was more stretched out and no longer rode like a hunchback! Otherwise it's probably just a case of spending more hours in the saddle and strengthening the old neck muscles.

Been following this thread. Might be worth looking at these -

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Protone-resista ... cise+bands

Can help with the right moves and strengthen, stretch and enable the neck.
