Well I know it's a chipper of chipper races but still funny to see Kennaugh and Froome ride away from the peloton on the cat1 climb with 20 to go and finish ahead of the rest. Nice one boys (I assume Froome sat up in the 'sprint').

    9 CUNEGO Damiano

Why the Giro winner didn't chase after Froome, I don't know...

Maybe he has been listening to Kirby's commentary too much and thought that Damiano Cunego the master descender (TM) would have been able to catch up on the way down

    How often do you see a GC that reads;
    1st SKY
    2nd SKY
    3rd ONE Pro cycling !

OGE stage video is worth a watch.

Quote from a shattered OGE rider who'd tried to bring Froome and kennaugh back.. "Froomey started it I guess, we used to just cruise around chatting to our mates but he comes over, steals our crowd and beats us in our own bike race. Whose idea was it to bring him?!"
  • for those interested, we can see the highlights on their channel

Yeah, I saw that as well. Classy little "who let these amateurs in?" moment.

  • Froomey with the stage win and the overall.
Saw a clip of little Pete confronting someone as they rolled in but not sure what that was about?

    Quote from Cyclingtips ...

Words between Peter Kennaugh and Pat Shaw after the #suntour final stage. After the race Kennaugh said, “When our director said to us on the last lap to ride, to keep it at 40 seconds to protect my second place on GC, he (Shaw) just came up to me and (was) laughing in my face. “He called me selfish c***" “He said,`I don’t know how you sleep at night, you’re disgusting’ and all this. He obviously wanted to beat me on GC. “I just went up to him and confronted him and he wouldn’t look me in the eye. “A bit of sour note to end it on. It’s sport, I guess, but there’s no need for it to happen.” No word from Shaw on the incident.

If you read the rest of the SBS article after what has already been posted, Kennaugh has been dishing out some verbal abuse himself to the Avanti team over the last few days. How true those allegations are, who knows but it'll quickly pass (maybe Shaw and Kennaugh excepted) and is no more than a storm in a teacup.

There's a bit more detail from the Avanti manager in this:

Personally, with no other justification than prejudice, I'm going to put it down to chippy Aussies displaying the standard Aussie attitude to sport.

  • I watched the last stage on the website of Herald Sun. Bit unfair for Froomey to say that he has stolen the win from PK. He was sent to cover the man who attacked after he was about 5 meters clear of the line of the KOM. Contact radio with team and the attacker was extending the gap in the descent With no attack, i'm sure the 1-2 would have been PK CF. One of the critics against Team Sky was the inhability to adapt during races. So they reacted to the situation and PK gave it the go anyway. And happy team on the podium for the winner team even PK

  • If anyone is at a loose end, or stuck hiding from yet another Northern European storm, there are extended highlights (45 minutes each) available of the first 3 stages.
As yet, there doesn't appear to be a similar package for stage 4.

Apparently he's known as an excellent descender in very cold winter conditions.

You mean he's good at the bobsleigh?

Anyone got any idea why Froome came all the way down here for the Sun Tour rather than the Tour Down Under? Seems an odd choice. Bit like me going to England to play county cricket rather than Ashes when I'm in the test team. (Not that I am)

with the birth of his son on December 15, he missed the December camp. The guys in TDU were already in OZ in early January. He probably wanted to spend time with his family. He made the Mallorca camp in January. And he had the time to do a week of training in OZ before the Herald Sun Tour with G, Stannard, Puccio. He said he wanted to start the season free from stress. And he loved his training in Tasmania for the 2015 TDF (weather especially)

Why is that an incentive? Surely the reverse?

    :D

Shaw doesn't have the greatest reputation. Mr Angry and very mouthy on the bike on the domestic scene, not so big & brave off it. I did hear tell of a rider from another NRS team having had enough of him, and knocking him for six...

    Great shots.
Am I imagining it, or is Bobridge being a bit more "climb-ey" than previous seasons (including being leaner?)? It feels as though he still hasn't quite found himself on the road yet - and it'd be a shame if he slipped into "solid team rider in GTs and occasional podium in one dayers" role, without ever winning big.

With the World's less than a month away, he'd better not be going too lean...

Rohan Dennis has never forgiven him for 2012. Bobridge was at the heart of poor discipline in the Aussie TP squad in the run up to London
