When does kit become too much kit

This isn't a bike with the n+1 and the comments coming from the other side of the bed suggest their is a limit to how many bib shorts/tights and tops one should have.

1 pair of bib shorts = 1 pair of shoes.
    1 top = 1 handbag.............
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I reckon I have more shoes than her, handbags though, that could be a winner.

Glad the BB crowd can crawl out of their pit to the general.

Think it was when I clearly stated I had ordered another pair of shorts which made it 4 pairs (exc MTB/CX ones) to go with the 3 pairs of tights.

...and I don't think club kit can be counted at all as that is really just uniform, otherwise it would be a bit like a woman counting her working tabbard amongst her evening wear

    Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffftttt.

As if you can have TOO much kit.

Take a leaf from Assos and their marketing.

I think they have 16 'Body Insulators' (vests to us) just to begin with.
  • My personal guideline is when my bike wardrobe space exceeds 50% of my total clothing space. I was in that territory last year and solved it by buying two large under bed storage boxes for the bibshorts and baselayers (jackets and jerseys still in the wardrobes) but somehow I'm back there again?

You only have to much when you need more wardrobe space than she does.
    Has any man achieved his?
    Ever.

    Yep, I do.
Joys of suits for work, suits for pleasure, shirts, casual wear, house wear, Climbing wear, Ski wear, Gym kits and then cycling kits, throw on the odd wetsuit and water sports kit.

Yes I did deliberately open it up for you all, being nice since it is a monday

I do not doubt for a second that you do have all that kit.
How many rooms are your wife's clothes spread over? Including the stuff with labels on she got on sale.

    @ flan the man.

Are you seeking clarification or to validate what you have or need?

It's simple, if the kit I need is ready to wear and not in the wash or drying then I have sufficient to cover my needs.

    It works surprisingly well.

I begin to think I might have enough kit when I discover stuff I'd forgotten that I had

@slow Seeing if recent purchases are normal or excessive. Then the BB crowd got involved.

Even though I may cycle 4 maybe 5 times a week kit gets washed pretty quickly. But was interested to see what others had and work out a norm.

For instance road kit, I have 3 pairs of tights, 2 deep winter (prob returning 1 of the deep winter having ordered new shorts)
    4 pairs of good shorts
    5 jerseys
    2 coats, 1 gilet

My CX isjust one pair of old shorts and an old top that were relegated for the mud.

Now by no means do i think this is lots or even close to the stash others have but I am curious as to when it becomes surplus

Your wardrobe is full of gaps - no 3/4 bibs, no Gabba, you haven't detailed long and short sleeve jerseys so it's hard to know what goes with what.

As for 2 coats.....theres no place in cycling for a 'coat'........and even simple maths will tell you 9 bottom half garments v 8 top half doesn't work.

    Base layers...not even mentioned.....very sloppy

Apologies, Gilet is a Gabba as I ditched the L/S jersey when I got a PT jacket to go with the softshell Jacket. 3/4 are grim. Base layers are countless due to the mix of sports, probably ranging between 10-15 (summer and winter) Only 1 L/S jersey as I prefer arm warmers (2 sets) to go with 1 set of leg warmers ;0. 3 pairs of oversocks, 5 pairs of socks, 1 pair of overshoes, 1 mitts 3 gloves, 1 hat, god knows what has been forgotten ;0

when you get to the end of the year, feel youve been cycling fairly frequently wearing different bits each time, yet realise youve still not worn at least half the kit youve got

Ive probably got too many short sleeve tops, rather than a glut of everything, but certainly could do with not buying anything more for a while

Surplus is when you can pack for the following and still leave suff behind.
A week in the high mountains in summer. Anything from 30+ degrees to heavy rain to snow. And no laundry.

I currently own 8 pairs of shorts + 1 pair of tights, and 9 short sleeve jerseys and 2 long sleeve. Also have 2 gilet, a few base layers and 2 jackets. Only 2 pairs of shoes though. Oh, and half a dozen sweat bands and bandanas.

    I am on:

3 tights (of which 1 unpadded)
5 shorts (of which one is definitely on the way out)
7 s/s jerseys (one too big)
4 jackets (one commuting only, 2 best and one "not sure what to do with this")
    1 race cape/waterproof
    1 gilet
    1 pr armwarmers
    1 pr knee warmers
    5 socks (2 winter, 2 summer and 1 midweight)
4 gloves (1 mitt, 1 midweight, 1 deep winter and one huge goretex lobsters)
    2 summer caps
    1 winter cap
    1 neck collar thing
5 baselayers covering sleeveless to l/s deep winter merino
    2 shoes - one commuting/wet, one best.
    one waterproof overshoes

All of it gets worn, although I could probably lose some s/s jerseys and the wtf jacket. The latest addition was a Rapha PT jacket which arrives shortly and if it is as water resistant as I am hoping then I am now covered for pretty much anything.

I'm very very light on SS jerseys at the moment, anyhow:

3 Bibshorts, 1 Mille, 1 repaired Mille, 1 DHB for CX
2 Bibtights, 1 Sorpasso, 1 DHB which are a bit baggy
    2 Bibknickers, both Tk.607
3 Jackets, Mossa, Mossa.2, Aeron Softshell.
5 LS jerseys, Alpha, Torm T5, 2 x DHB aeron roubaix, 1 x Prendas Aqua thingy
4 SS Jerseys, none of which are "posh" so, 1 PX one, 1 Owayo team kit, 1 Owayo charity kit, 1 chinese knock off. I really need to sort this collection on.
    1 Gilet, Aeron lightweight one

4 pairs of gloves, 3 buffs, 1 hat, 1 pair glasses, 1 helmet, 1 cambelbak
1 pair road shoes, 1 pair MTB shoes
1 pair overshoes, 3 pairs oversocks
    6 baselayers
30 pairs of socks I reckon
    1 cap
    Two lots of chamois cream
    One pot of embrocation

My arm warmers cover all long sleeve jersey conditions or I just get cold.

Forgot to add my skinsuit. Short leg long arm. It's so bloody thin as someone said to me "you can see your soul through it". No jokes
