Anyone else concerned about the Anti Sugar hysteria?

  • I'm not particularly interested in the big sugar debate. I am an active 78 year old, still testing myself on evening tens. Having survived rationing and food poverty and the second world war I count myself lucky to survive the so called 'nutritionists' of today. I don't take sugar with tea or my morning coffee but like a fellow club member, also 78, (female) I do take sugar in the occasional afternoon coffee. Refined sugar can and is obtained from the beet plant, as Beet juice is now a mooted sport drink I see little difference in sugar being refined by our biological system, ie apples, oranges, bananas, grapefruit, grapes plus many other fruit choices. I do recognise the dangers of the 'sugar rush' also the dreaded 'bonk'. Over the years I have experienced the bonk, cramps, cycling cramps and other injuries, I'm still here, hopefully still being annoyed by the modern day dieticians. I do enjoy 'Trust me I'm a doctor' watching many diet myths being debunked.
Nation Clarion, the club for all reasons.

Personally I find programs like "Trust me, I'm a doctor" to be very irritating and pointless, telling me very little. They are so dumbed-down and the half-arsed "experiments" they do on people have no research merit.

As MRS pointed out earlier, we are now finding out that everyone's digestive system works differently so generalisations about this food or that is meaningless. This is even more so now that so many societies are becoming a cultural mixture.

I basically use carbs (including sugar) when I am exercising but try and avoid it as much as possible (apart from fruit) when not and eat a balanced diet.
