Meanwhile their previously lauded DWR coated base layer is being sold off for £40.
Because they've brought out an updated version with a short zip. What's the problem with that? It's what companies do to sell you more kit. Strandard practice.
Is the zip worth 140 quid?
It costs £85 http://www.rapha.cc/gb/en/shop/pro-team-softshell-base-layer/product/SHB020 -

Sorry, my weak attempt at equating the new jersey (£220) as a similar product to the old base layer with a zip
Look, it might be great. I CAN see the point. But, will this be considerably better than the cheap Oxygen jersey? Santini Reef at Prendas or the very very similar stolen goat variant. Time will tell but it will need to be bloody amazing for £220. It's great that their succesful. I rate many of their products as best in class. But this one? We'll see.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

From reading the blurb on the Rapha site, the point of this jacket is that it's made from a tightly woven fabric with no membrane sandwiched in as per the Gabba, et al.
It'll feel pretty much windproof, water repellant due to the DWR treatment and very breathable. I won't buy this jacket, but I do see the point/niche of it.
Sounds similar to Polartec Powershield then. About time somebody started using something other than the ubiquitous gore windstopper membrane.
Regarding the softshell baselayer;what the feck is the point of putting a DWR treatment on a baselayer?0 -

Rapha use Powershield Pro in the Pro Team Jacket, Pro Team Softshell and I think it's on the front of the Pro Team Bib Tights too. It's a great material.0 -

I have the pro team jacket and it's my favourite. Have also owned several mountaineering jackets made from it over the years. So much better than windstopper0 -

I get the point of a windproof baselayer, but the point of DWR is that water beads off. How does this work with another layer on top?0 -
has anyone thought about trying this stuff on any of their kit?
Saw it on dragons den the other night. Pricey though.

Probably wouldn't anyway, you're wearing two layers of windproof material, the DWR wouldn't make any difference0 -

I've used it on my airmax collection, nothing special. I use this gtechniq for detailing products for our cars... They do a cheaper fabric coater that works better and comes in much larger quantities http://gtechniq.com/products/auto/perfect/exterior/paint/i1-smart-fabric
Works very well at what it does, but again, as with any DWR coating from factory or re-coating, once it's been in the washing machine you'll need to do it again. It gets expensive if you wash kit after every use!0 -
http://road.cc/content/review/144507-stolen-goat-orkaan-race-tech-jersey
found that whilst researching this morning.
I have one of these, the material is fine does what they claim, but there is no storm flap behind the zip so the wind just whistles thru so makes the whole thing a waste of time. Sizing is rubbish, I have the Large which is apparently 38-40. I am 38 and it is a very very tight fit, If I was 39 it would be impossible to wear.
Pro Team Jacket still my go to jersey for cool weather riding.0 -

I don't think that's quite true. Depending upon the coating, it can last a while - some need "re-activating" with some heat. But, yes, they do eventually give up and re-proofing is never quite as robust. That why I have to question the do-it-all jacket/jersey as it doesn't rain that often but I wash my kit after a day of riding.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

There is another solution to this problem.
The Mossa can be custom printed, so you can get them made in your club or team colours0 -

For the £500 that you would spend 'weatherproofing' yourself with this stuff, wouldn't it be better spent on a week in the sun in Majorca?!0

Castelli do a £300 rain jacket...assos £300 bibs (and worse)...seriously guys, whats the deal with the endless rapha bashing threads?? It's a british company doing well that does (mostly) pretty damn good kit and which has a history of supporting british teams and so on...chill!!
Why should the nationality of a firm matter? Or who it supports (ie gets paid by for using their kit)?
I don't care if the company is British, French, Italian or from darkest Peru, if the kit is good and well priced or rubbish or overpriced that's what I base my judgement on.
There's no point in blind jingoism when it comes to purchases.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

This was about the double standards that many people have between 'established' top end brand names (which happen to be foreign) and this uk upstart (not been an upstart for a decade now but hey ho they're still a lot smaller). Thats all.0 -

But very successful in his task, I have lived in italy for 27 years and never heard of Parentini... now everybody on this forum knows the company :shock:left the forum March 20230
