Most overrated moment in 2015 cycling

This is the reason he is paid to much, he is always there putting the sponsor On the podium. I just don't think he's at that see you later ride away from everyone level, he's just as strong as everyone else but has a top level sprint.
Gent-Wevelgem 2013
Gent-Wevelgem is a chipper and Costa's got a WC. Let's just see what he does this year
Yet if you look at G-W palmares, there are almost only big names... more likely to find a turd wearing the rainbow jersey, me thinks...left the forum March 20230 -
Geraint Thomas' GC potential is wildly overrated based on an unbelievable ride with the 'big 4' on stage 12 this year. It's true that without Thomas, Froome (“but I definitely think G is capable of [placing second].") may have lost back some time to Quintana in the early mountain stages. (In a team containing Porte, Roche, Poels & Konig a rational world would view this as more dross from Kerrison rep). But he paid for the heroics, finishing +31', noticeably nowhere at the pointy end of the race.
Love watching the guy ride, but it's such a shame that a legitimate monument threat (sensibly) chased the coverage and acclaim of firstly an Olympic medal and now, apparently, top 10 in the Tour.
Think that's a little harsh.
Firstly, I don't think his potential to win a monument is particularly damaged by his stage race riding - given that he animated MSR, was influential in Flanders, won Harelbeke and took a podium in Gent-Wevelgem in hurricane conditions.
Secondly, he buried himself for Froome, which was his job, and his jour sans only came on stage 19. Sky clearly used him hard while keeping Poels fresh for the tail end of the tour. I thought he held on magnificently, given he was riding for someone else. With a suitable parcours and a team riding for him, I think he'd be a legitimate threat for GC.
Basing it on this:
Geraint Thomas to focus on stage racing, not Classics, in 2016
And:Sports director Servais Knaven has explained that Geraint Thomas has to focus only on the Tour de France and sacrifice the Classics.
If you're suggesting he'll have his normal full-throated bash at the classics, and still be a legitimate GC-threat (where?)... well I think you're proving my point.
I do agree that he'd be liable for much more protection as leader and we don't know how well he can do without carrying a team on his back - although Froome in 2012 and Landa/Valverde 2014 managed podiums in this role. Perhaps those teams were just far superior? By the way, I doubt keeping Poels fresh was the idea behind supporting Froome with such a magnificent performance from the cobbled crosswinds guy when you build a team of climbers - Porte, Roche, Konig. Fair enough, but he still seems to be down to ride some classics.
It really is incredible how lucky Brailsford gets. It's as if, you know, it wasn't all just luck.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -

I'm not a 100% loyal Pro Race poster, but I'm pretty close, so no temptation to jump ship.0 -
I don't know what my pro race percentage is. It's up there but not as dedicated as Mr Macaloon.
Edit: 60.5% - Shocking. Must try harder!0 -
Only 36.3% for me...
I don't feel like I know enough about it to contribute properly to a lot of it.
Live blogging GT stages and races in the appropriate threads is a good way to increase one's pro race post count. That or posting in the "Are Sky clean or not?" thread0 -
Sagan's WC
The media seem to bang on about as though he's the messiah but he rarely wins big races.
I thought his TOC win was pretty impressive even if some bemoan the race"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0 -

Bang on.
C'mon - the guy finished 20 secs behind Sergio Henao and 10 secs behind Joe Dom'ski on Mt Baldy St.7. He beat the likes of Ten Dam and Gesink. There's no one else in the peloton who can do that and realistically be classed as a favourite for any one day race on the calendar.0 -

Tis true. He aint one of me faves, but that was a gutsy performance (and *cough* MY MAN Boswell finished 13s ahead of Dombrowski, after lending a bit of pacing to Henao )0 -

Guy finally gets a team that can keep up with him, only to hear "What a waste of money" in the earpiece all season. He's the Ernie Shackleton of the peloton:
But did he get a gob on?
No he gave a little grin

^^^ Sagan himself I have little issue with, and California was a indeed a great effort. It's more the cycling media constantly messing themselves over his every move. Mumble something incoherent about refugees and he's the new Kofi Annan, make a Grease YouTube video and he's the new Cameron Mackintosh.
(PS he's in my predictions - no monuments again. He's the new Freddie Maertens)Twitter: @RichN950 -

This. And the whole Team Wiggins over-knowing ego-fest. Exemplified by the Rapha Simpsonissimo jersey. Urgh.0 -
Thomas
I did think of Geraint - and maybe Gerrans. But, in the finale, you wouldn't really favour the former in a group any bigger than 4; and the latter in a group of himself.0
