err, I beg to differ. My mum got an MBE after a lifetime of selfless help for a charity (a local hospice). My mum is a avid royalist whereas I am a staunch republican...but it was still one of my proudest days to accompany her to the palace to pick up the award
Chapeau to your Mum - but it is no basis for a system of government.
That is one heck of a huge jump.
To make a further leap, I call Godwins.
You Sir are no better than 1930s Germany0 -
Could well be true.
I always thought it was stupid to give people awards whilst they are still competing.
I looked into nominating someone for an award on their retirement, but they still have to be active in the field for which they are nominated (services to charity etc) in order to be eligible.
As I asked earlier, how would they award Brad if he did something outstanding given that he is already a Sir?
Nuts.
Awards and the Queen are obviously linked but if you think the abolition of the awards, or the Queen would have significant impact on how this Country is run then I think you are very much mistaken. All you would be doing is removing the illusionary head, not the real problem as you see it.The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
I hate that cringeworthy time of year, when the lovies all preen themselves on TV in mock surprise at receiving their gongs for pretending to be someone else on stage or screen and then sparing a few hours or quid for a cherridee it's a national embarrassment, and the biggest of the lot was the Rt Hon fat bloke from hull who was made a lord after years of saying the house of lords should be scrapped and then proclaiming that his wife made him as it will make up for me sha99ing my secretary and all will be forgiven if she's a lady.
That will be the hypocrite, The Lord John (Jabba the, English language mangler, M4 Bus lane instigator, 2 Jags, Hutt), Barron Prescott of Kingston upon Hull, Life Peer, don't cha Know.0 -

Removing the illusionary head would have me dancing in the streets and grabbing their land and castles would help the feel good factor... But no it would make no difference, even a military coup would make no difference as the same people would still be running the show.

Just seen this on TwitterThe Broom Wagon @broomwagonblog 1 hour ago
Froome got an mbe for winning the tour twice. Wiggo did it once, called everyone a c unt in a press conference and got knighted.
I know Wiggo did a lot more than just win the tour but it made me smile.
May make a difference.
I thought it was just because honours tend to increase in levels and wiggo built up his through olympic golds before getting the knighthood in 2012. Pretty sure if Froome keeps winning the tour he'll be a knight before long regardless of where he pays tax...
I always thought it was stupid to give people awards whilst they are still competing.
What would they give Brad if he was to win in the Olympics, make a comeback and win the Grand Tour trio?
Pure fantasy of course, but for arguments sake.

now I am intrigued what you meant by "Godwins" - I assumed you meant Godwins Law0 -
As in every discussion reverts to someone calling someone else a Nazi? You are correct.
I must admit to a slight feeling of swell headedness - I've never really been told that my incompetence is on the level of a despotic, evil, tyrannical, anti simetic, racist disgusting, totalitarian National Socialist regime before. I'm not sure if it's a compliment (obviously only in Nigel Farage's eyes) or not.
Either way, thank you very much and at least you didn't call me a Thatcherite - now that would have caused problems.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Just to quickly add:
1. Reference the above post: I do not condone Mad Adolf and his mad friends at all. Neither do I condone the actions of Mad Nigel Farage and his white collar Nazi mates.
2. This post confirming the above has just boosted my post count by a mighty one.
Many thanks and kind regardsPostby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Hmmm not sure if you are tongue in cheek offended but to explain myself
When you said "To make a further leap, I call Godwins" I assumed you were saying thread closed. Sorry for being on a separate wavelength and no offence was intended0 -
