Who misses their summer bike?

Only my hybrid I've got Wellgo MG1 pedals now and the grip from them is very good. I can use my gym trainers with them and they haven't slipped at all yet. I actually have to lift my foot off the pedal to reposition it.
ah, those are proper MTB ones, rather than road ones.
trail cycling shoes do generally feel better cycling than trainers, since they are stiffer.0 -
Nope, I see it every day.
Missing summer, but not my summer bike.
Thats the whole point of a winter bike isn't it? To love that your summer bike is safe and dry at home
Wot e sed0 -
My winter bikes are taking a beating this year, mud and general muck so bad its taking several cleaning sessions to even look remotely clean, plus two of them take proper mudguards and have clearance for wider tyres the other is carbon which I use for club rides, hopefully dry ones.
All three winter bikes have hand me down groupset partly so I can feed my desire to upgrade my fleet of best bikes.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.0 -
Is this going to become a 'I have more bikes than you' thread?
We have 2 unused DA bikes in the garage at the moment.
Maybe I should wall hang them in the living room, as they aint going out any time soon 8)0 -
Popped down to see mine in the basement during a quiet moment today. Gave her chain a quick spray of WD 40 just so she doesn't feel unloved.0

I'll let you know next year when my current summer (my only) bike gets side graded when I purchase another best bike.
To be fair, It would have been the true Winter bike this year, but I've spent all my spare cash building up a TT bike.
Cheers

Wd40? Are you in an abusive relationship with your summer bike?0 -
Have a training bike and a race bike so the concept isn't relevant to me.0

Well it is in the basement. Probably chained up too :shock:0 -
My 'Winter' bike is up to the standard of my 'Summer' bike, only 10 speed ultegra instead of 11 speed ultegra, so I don't particularly miss my 'Summer' bike. I love both.0

Don't particularly miss my summer bike. I ride single speed in winter. So liberating, hardly ever needs cleaning and a great way to maintain fitness. What I do miss is the longer days and midweek rides (I don't do nightime rides).Specialized Venge S Works
Cannondale Synapse
Enigma Etape
Genesis Flyer Single Speed
Turn the corner, rub my eyes and hope the world will last...0 -
Ill never be better than my bike, only riding more will make me fitter/faster, so....My one bike gets winterized with rear mud guard, lights and crappier wheelset. In summer it gets the best wheelset and new bar tape etc. Not bling, poss boring but makes economic sense!Caveat - I buy and ride cheap, however, I reserve the right to advise on expensive kit that I have never actually used and possibly never will0

Don't people use their summer bikes on their turbo trainers?
I do. Just use the skewer that came with the turbo and nothing gets damaged, then I get to ride the decent bike when the weather's really bad. My old summer bike has just been relegated to winter bike following an upgrade so I'm still wary of taking it out in bad weather, but I'm easing up a bit on the OCD front... It's a bit of an ache buying a new summer bike in December though as I have to wait so long to give it a good ride out in the open. The problem with nice, clear crisp days in the winter are that as soon as you get into the hills, there's crap everywhere. I'm hoping I'll see the good bike out in April.0 -

So you have winter wheels and would have a winter bike if it made financial sense to you personally?
Or agree with winter wheels, but not winter bike?
Better at what than your bike?
Would you be better than any bike?
Will you ever be better than your wheels? I am confused.0 -
I've amended my post again as too much rambling on happen'd, apologies for that.
Own as many bikes as you like, but I think the summer/winter bike concept is tosh. If you find that you miss your summer bike get on and ride it!
'summer' bikes in shed patiently waiting for summer

Summer bike was used today - loved it0

Winter bike = the bike i ride all year to work with gaurds and a pannier rack, makes for extra training when i use it for the club run .
Summer bike has nicer components and no gaurds and as i know i am not going to get a new one any time soon i try to keep it as nice as possible.FCN 3/5/90 -
I tried riding my summer bike in Autumn. 2 miles in covered in cow crap cold and wet. I went back into the shed and hugged my winter heavyweight.
How anyone can ride without decent mudguards in winter is something I can't work out.0
