Young rider of the year 2016
If we take Alaphilippe and Benoot as two young riders who excelled in 2015, who do you think is going to light up the peloton.
The obvious one, and the one I'll start with is Gaviria. Not only did he beat Cav twice in San Luis but he made Greipel look slow in the ToB. Holm reckons the boy is going to be huge, although he probably will spend a chunk of time on the track this year ahead of the Olympics.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of him for sure.

oui oui... OGE have a strong line up... wasn't sure if Joel was wanting to focus on Neos or anyone under 26...0 -
Stefan Kung (22)
Lennard Kamna (19)
Hoping for a proper Merhawi Kudus breakthrough, still only 21

Anyone younger than Rebellin or Gandalf will do.
But I was more thinking about first or second year pros who you think can step up to the plate (not a Betancur style plate either).
Chaves really came of age last year and promises much in the Vuelta and Giro, I love Kung and think he'll be a superstar, and I also like the look of Muhlberger and Moscon.0 -

Davide Formolo is hopefully going to have a good year.0

At the other edge of the spectrum 44 yr old Rebellin was re-signed by CCC for 2016, meaning that he'll have been a pro longer than any rider under 24 has been alive...0 -
Formolo faces an important year. Aside from a superb stage win in the Giro, he needs to start to get a couple of top 5 GCs in I reckon.0

Just having a look at the team, they really should be contending either the giro or the Vuelta with that team, but I imagine Rigo will go for the Tour this year.0 -

Not good enough to win a GT I don't think but they should be able to win something, a decent roster but no superstars. Wippert and Bevin could do well in the sprints, they have a number of talented youngsters and some ok steadies like Uran, Ryder, Rolland.0 -

With the right course and opposition he could win the Giro. Ryder is gone btw Trek0 -
As Joel likes to point out; probably any rider who shows themself as talented is a duck. And we all know that ducks are dopers. Quack cocaine or some form of PED (Performance Enhancing Duckery) will be to blame. As a consequence, I can't help expecting any thread started by Joel will end in:
"...and it's all because, without exception, they're all dopers - live with it (I do).
The End."0 -

I'm excited for the Lotto classics threat of Benoot, De Bie, Wellens and Wallays with a year of big race experience under their belts."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

TommyD suprises no one by winning the Dutch rider of the year. Not exactly a stellar year as far as actual results go, male or female
(ie not including the Grand Depart)
Anna van der Breggen might disagree...0 -

hmmmm, fair enough I suppose. Hard not to judge any Dutch Rider by Vos' standards, but you make a fair pointWe're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence
