Need to give my Perenium (or "barse" as it's known in Glasgow a test for a fortnight.
What can I do in the gym to keep the hand in?
Moving stairs and swimming are the base answers so far. Anything else??

I can confirm that is not a contributory factor to my current discomfort!0 -
Just have a rest. You will lose very little fitness in two weeks and regain it again in less than another two weeks (and you may improve a a result of the rest). Do some upper body or core strength work if you want to do something.0

Medium weight 5x5 stronglifts, though you might want to adapt on the squats and stretch everything that can be stretched.
2 weeks is enough to make it uncomfortable getting back at at it.0
