Becky James
Hi Blazing Saddles - this thread is just for you to answer my question. Nothing more.
While perusing the bets available on Paddy Power I saw that Becky was 4/1 to win a medal (any medal) at the 2016 Olympics. I thought this was free money so I lumped in. Is there something I don't know, BS? Or have I potentially beaten the bookies by listening to you.
Other bets:
Lewis Hamilton to win SPOTY again 6/1
Best actor Oscar: Leonardo DiCaprio 2/1
Best actress: Saoirse Ronan 6/1

At this stage of the game it's a fair bet, Rich.
Ultimately, she doesn't know, so we don't know whether she'll be there.
BC are making a huge effort to get her to the line. No resources have been spared.
She will start by only doing the sprint in the World Cup in New Zealand.
Hong Kong is also on her dance card, as her first goal will be to get the qualifying points for the big two.
I can tell you that she is happy because she going well in training atm.
Those odds should shorten a fair bit if the Ruskies get a total Olympic shut out."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Morning BS
What can you offer about the lotto numbers for tonight?Half man, Half bike0 -
I would say those odds are about right or slightly in the bookies favour myself. Obviously Blazing will know more about where she is in her comeback at the moment but it's going to be a fight to get selected ahead of Jess Varnish and new kid on the block Katy Marchant who has come on the scene during Becky's recovery then there's Vicky Williamson. Add to that there are a few other nations I would say have edged ahead of GB in track sprinting. Hopefully will get a run at full fitness between now and Rio and get back to / surpass her 2013 form.0

I wouldn't put too much on Williamson. She looks the weakest of the group from what I've seen0 -
More important than selection.
George has been sin binned.

True but she's had a few opportunities in the World Cups etc. while Becky has been out of action. I had thought Shanaze Reade was returning to the track too but not sure what's happened with that?0 -

Shanaze is training with the track sprint squad, her pb is still the fastest time of any of them, but I think she was injured earlier in the year and is just getting back up to speed, and they are still trying to find the best matched pair.
but they are all still at an incredibly young age, I dont think you can expect too much from them yet for Rio, medals always possible, but I think its to gain experience for Tokyo, Vicky Pendleton wouldnt have had any track career to speak off at all if she'd been written off by age 24.
Shanaze is training on the track with the rest of the squad, her pb is the fastest time
be fair on them they are a really young group0 -
I don't think anyone is criticising them. Becky has already proven herself at the very highest level with two world titles and that was nearly three years ago.0

You are not alone in that thinking, Rich.

What's the score with Jason Kenny, Blazing? Never mind on the bike and what he isnt achieving, I heard after the Worlds last year that he had been the source of a lot of negativity amongst the squad, affecting the youngsters in particular0

I rarely, if ever, get individual gossip back from source.
I've only ever had feedback on one rider regarding that score RR.
Only talked with Jason socially, a couple of times.
Seemed to get along OK with the other members of the squad I saw him with, but that was a while back.
He's pretty introverted. Doesn't open up much.
I did sit next to him over a lunch, where he spoke quite morosely about his future in the long term.
Not much to go on, I'll grant you, but I wouldn't call him an optimist."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

On that score, are Alice Barns and Hannah Barnes related? Barnes is common enough to be a question mark...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

I could be wrong but I've read his posts since I first crossed swords with him on the early Eurosport Forums when he accused me of being a TDF "Three week Wonder" but didn't know what a Half Wheeler was.Organiser, National Championship 50 mile Time Trial 19720 -
My bad, I had it wrong. I knew there was a reference somewhere on the forum... Becky James is Niece Saddles...Blazing Saddles wrote:Well done Pokerface.
Since this thread has been started, I'm now able blow my own trumpet.
I now have 2 world champion nieces.
Following Becky's double rainbow of last year, big Sister Rachel won the kilo tandem gold, knocking
almost 3 seconds off the world record, with her 18YO partner, Sophie Thornhill.
BBC breakfast tv have shown the medal ceremony and short interview.
Some nice photo's and stuff on Rachel's BF's twitter:

Excellent research. I now understand what's going on. Seems to be some competition for the position of top Niece Saddles though.0 -

Was there tonight, sat just to the left of the UCI seats with Mr North and clan James just down below me to the right and Katie Archibald and Andy Tennant directly to my right.
Incredible performance in both semi and final. Such astute riding. So pleased for Becky after all her hard work to get back. Extremely popular performance in the Velodrome. Great night all-in-all with Trott doing all that work and still winning and the blockbuster TP final.0 -
Rich, I hope you took that bet.
Needless to say, we are all over the moon with that performance.
I reckon SS and the GB coaches were quite pleased, too!
Just had the morning report and it sounds as if they enjoyed a good night.
RR was there too.

It was the only session I had tickets for - lucked out as when bought they hadn't announced the programme. Anyway off to Nice for a bit of road this week.0 -
Hopefully she'll be the sprinter of choice for Rio now there's only one qualified and no team sprint. She's the only one of the current crop of British women sprinters who has been able to demonstrate performance (in solo events) against the world's best and with another 5-6 months of racing in her legs will only get better.0
