Just got a new phone and like the idea of the essentials case by Rapha - as always don't like the price tag though. Apart from a plastic bag any suggestions?
Thanks

They now do a "non leather" version on the Rapha site. It's about twenty quid less and available black, blue and red. Give that a whirl?Still thinking of something clever to say!0 -

Lezyne? claims to be waterproof, Rapha doesn't

Your girlfriend/wife's purse?
I got one of those sticky pod things. Nice picture of a cartoon frog on the front of it.0 -
Mate has the essentials case. Its tiny. He cant get his phone in. Seriously - save your money.
I use a lezyne bag for most of my gear and then my phone in a ziploc bag in another pocket. Much better than the other options i've tried - and cheaper.0 -
Another option from Lezyne:
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/lezyne/phone-wallet-ec049965
Has a separate compartment for the phone, slots for credit cards and a zip compartment for cash. I've used this for some time, and it's been okay for keeping everything secure and the phone dry. You don't even need to remove the phone from the case to use it as the touchscreen can be used through the vinyl window.0 -
I use the Lezyne caddy sack if my jersey/jacket hasn't got a zip. That way it's waterproof and wedged in there.
If I have zipped pockets then I use a pocpac just for waterproofing or sweat protection0 -

He should stop buying big phones then.
My Essentials Case contains a CO2, chuck, inner tube (or tub sealant) rubber gloves, patch kit, small allen keys, bank card/cash, BC ID and tyre levers all packed neatly and the case sits nice and flush in the central jersey pocket. My mate’s got a Lezyne caddy sack – it looks like a saggy bag and the contents are always sticking in his back.

I bought a cheap camera case from my local pound shop (believe it or not for £1!). It looks OK and can take my Mobile, a pair of reading specs, £50 and keys. I've had it in a back pocket in rain (but not a downpour) and everything survived but I also stick a 'ziploc' sandwich bag in there as well, just in case.Cannondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra

Its not a big phone - standard work issue nokia thing.
Blimey I bet you're great at packing the car for holidays !0 -
£45? Seriously? I get this kind of thing with cameras, haircutting sets, nailcare sets, pencil cases, etc. and generally just throw them away.0
-
£50 and keys.
In 50p pieces?
Sticky pod for me. Does the job but spoils the line of the jersey (or perhaps balances the muffin top depending on your point of view).0 -
small sealable freezer bag. dont keep phone in essentials casePegoretti

I use one of these for the essentials, co2, tube, patches, cable ties etc...

And then a velopac for my phone in a separate pocket, works for me0 -
The Rapha Essentials Case - A solution for a problem that didn't really exist!
I stick my phone is a sandwich bag and that keeps it dry with no issues, I have a case for my phone which has card slots and can also carry folded notes in, any loose change is thrown in a sunglasses soft case (like the ones you get with Oakley sunglasses) and all stuck in the jersey pockets.
All spares such as tubes and tools etc are carried on the bike, for shorter rides I use a spares bottle thingy, one with w screw top and chuck it in the second bottle cage and for longer rides I use a saddle bag as I usually take 2 bottles.
Can't imagine paying £45+ for a fancy handbag to chuck all of the above in?Obsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!0 -
Can't imagine paying 5k on a bike but some people do.
My pack is a tube, x2 co2, co2 nozzle/pump, 2 tyre levers, ID, cash and a 3+ 5mm key,Iphone 6
Current selection, some neoprene case from Cervo Rosso, small but holds everything but the phone
Oakley cloth case - everything but the phone, which goes in some useless zipvit plastic wallet
Essentials case - holds it all
Sandwich bag if it is lashing it down and the kit bag isn't the essentials case
I'll admit the essentials case is the neatest in both packing and pocket image. but ultimately it rarely matters by the time food/gels/gloves/gilet have been shoved into the other pockets0 -
Sea to Summit neoprene pouch. £7 each. I use one for money/phone/gel and another for tools/keys/inner tube. Balances out well and fits pockets perfectly.0

I've spent far too much on a lot of things in life as I am sure you have and many others on here. I'd probably buy thephone however it was free courtesy of work.0 -
I got a Remington electric shaver sometime ago for Christmas. The razor was utter carp but it did have a semi-triangular carry case that doubles up as carry bag. Fits, 2 x CO2 cartridges, adapter, 2 x latex inner tubes, Pedro's recycled milk bottle yellow tyre levers and 3 allen keys.
I try not to take the phone unless I am on a long ride 'cos it keeps bloody ringing, if I do, I switch it off.
Wet Haribo is still palatable and if I am dressed up like Michelin man in really cold weather, I have 6 pockets.
The waterproof fits neatly into an old adapted water bottle in my second set of bottle cage mounts.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
Thanks for all the comments - so on the general thought is the essentials case is for fashionista types (I'm not). It was specifically for my phone as I am quite happy with a saddle bag. Zip lock bag it is and stop looking at solutions to problems that don't exist.0

That's not the general consesus as several of us on here have stated we use the case and rate it, just not for a phone. The phone goes in a zip lock sandwich bag.
I've been called a lot of things, but never a fashionista! Is that a South American resistance fighter with a good taste in clothing?0 -

How much of what we buy (and not just cycling stuff) is stuff we think we need, convinced by clever marketing?seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

Pinno, nobody calls you and you have no signal up in the wilds. And I NEEDED that bottle of fine wine and expensive cigar (neither of which I liked ;0)
I'm going to admit I dislike saddle bags, prefer pockets or skip it. There may not have been a problem, but a lot of people here (no matter what they use) find there is, or there is at least a better method.
My vain issue with the ziplock bags is that none of the ones I have have too much excess and so fill my pockets needlessly, but as stated it does the job. The Rapha case does the job in a good looking way.0
