Bladder Problems

Hi all,

I've been back cycling since last summer. Over the past few months I've been getting gradually increasing bladder problems which has reminded me that it was the reason I stopped cycling 7 years ago.

My saddle up until my last ride was an old Bontrager standard saddle. I'm on a Merida road bike now and the saddle which I've ridden once felt more comfortable. That said my bladder symptoms increased further this weekend.

I have a training goal in mind and I've been adapting well since getting back to the bike. I'm now 32 years old. After stopping at 25 years old my bladder issues continued for about a year post cycling giving me pain and discomfort in that region. I remember the docs and I thinking I might have had prostate issues at that time but everything was inconclusive. What I can say is that I stayed off the bike and after a year the problems disappeared. I've been increasing my cycling this year and really getting the bug once more. I've entered the Marmotte and was considering something like the Haute route.

But now the Bladder problem is back. I don't want to leave the sport again as it greatly increases my enjoyment of life. I realise that my health comes first and I don't want to be impotent and stinking of pi** before I'm 40. I guess the first obvious thing to try would be one of the specialist saddle types. I'm not interested in medication though.

I appreciate any help and advice you might have.

Lots of great saddles with cut outs about. I personally ride a specialized Romin, all the weight goes on your sit bones with no pressure on your perineum. A saddle that suits you makes all the difference.

  • Strangely for me, my bladder issues go away on the bike. The saddle is either so comfortable that I have none, or so uncomfortable that my entire nether regions are anaesthetised. Either way it works.

Specialized Phenom expert saddle. Big cutout, curved shape.

Many thanks for the replies, I'm booked in for a Retul bike fit so hopefully i will buy a new saddle on the day.
  • Have a look at these and many official outlets also offer demo saddles you can try:
