I'm not humbugging though...Not that I'm upset as I've already paid for my menbership through discounts and I'm happy about the cover on the road.Advocate of disc brakes.0

You'd save more than 10% by not shopping at CR anyway.
On the ocasional bargain maybe, but on day to day shopping I doubt it and invite you to prove it with not one, but 8 items...
LBS is always more expensive but "its my LBS..." etc.

Lol mate I'm far too busy riding my bike to prove something to someone on the internet!! I use wiggle for day to day anyway...not the cheapest but service trumps for me.0 -

I had the same thing. Email them directly and tell them. They told me to go ahead with the purchase and then send them the transaction ID and they would issue the refund of discount, which they duly did.
It may have changed, may not be as good as it was, but I got an extra 10% off everything that was in my basket, much of it already 20-30% discounted. Not too shabby on £700 worth of goods.

Well, I got a great deal on a one-year lease of an Abarth 595 Turismo thanks to my BC membership - I has probably paid for quite a few years of BC membership - without, as mentioned above, the standard benefits of membership.
How did that work then?
Also pi$$ed off with CRC situation - they probably had a metric on their sales figures, where things
spiralled, if members were sharing discount codes etc., you can see it from their side too,
frustrating nevertheless! If Wales was flattened out, it'd be bigger than England!
Planet X Ti Sportive for Sportives & tours
Orange Alpine 160 for Afan,Alps & dodging trees
Singlespeed Planet X Kaffenback for dodging potholes

Maybe, but what is wrong is that there was no notice of the change. They did the exact same thing when the Wiggle 12% discount was scrapped - one day it was there, the next gone. They send a newsletter every Thursday so why not mention it in there?!!
Do you read all of the newsletter every Thursday then?
EDIT: It seems not as I have just noticed your post about it being in the October newsletter!
What difference would it make to knowing on Thursday, or when you ordered?
You sound like one of those guys that picks something up in a shop that is incorrectly priced, then demands that it is sold for that price (if its lower of course  ) and acts like the world has ended because of thinking it was cheaper for the 30 seconds it took to walk to the till!
With people joining BC all year round, how do you think it would work that these offers are a condition of joining?
Either the offer would have to be permanent, or BC would have to compensate everyone that was currently a member
How do you think they should be compensated? Full refund I am guessing
If its CRC that have pulled out, just Boycott them if you feel that strongly about it.
Do it properly though, don't ever buy something from them when you cannot get it cheaper elsewhere0 -

I wasn't going to bite, but s0d it. My complaint, which, after speaking to British Cycling over the phone seems to be a common complaint, is that they have changed the terms of the membership. That's my complaint.
I have no quibble with them changing the terms for new memberships or at the time of membership renewal, but to change terms mid membership is wrong in my opinion.
And BTW i am not one of those people who argue if something is priced incorrectly - i don't have any issue paying full price for a product at all, although like everyone else, like a bargain (which is why the 10% off all orders at CRC was so appealing to me when i signed up to the membership).0 -
The terms of the membership said the discount could be changed at any time, it was changed, so the terms of the membership were not broken.
If you knew about the wiggle discount then when you signed up the discount for CRC was 0%!www.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0 -
Alright, let's all stop getting our panties in a twist and acting shirty. Yes it might be annoying but at the end of the day it's hardly a tragedy.
Back to the matter at hand, British Cycling said (and still currently state on the Member Benefits page)"A series of seasonal promotions are planned for November and December so watch this space!"
Has anyone heard any more about what this might be? I don't read the "Member News" emails, just wondering if it might have been buried away in one of those somewhere. Hopefully they're not just talking about one of CRCs weekly "buy-this-load-of-crap-that's-clogging-up-our-warehouse" kind of sale.0 -

But completely agree with you, not a tragedy. Not noticed any extra offers, but haven't really looked either.0 -
This has made me think they should put the discount codes in the news letter to make people at least skim through it to find it!
how many people read it? I don't think I ever have.www.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0 -

I can understand people being fed up if a big part of joining was the discounts. Especially as they were removed mid membership. For me the main reason was the insurance and legal cover so not a big problem.0

T&C's clearly state that both BC and CRC reserve the right to end the promotion at any time. You can get all picky saying that it has been 'changed' and not 'ended' but how is that any different to ending the previous promotion and starting the £99 minimum one as a new promotion.
Now to contribute with a happy story; I've just saved £23.80 on a Tacx Vortex Smart turbo trainer with my November discount code0 -
I just saved a few quid,
Btw with free returns if you are desperate you could just order 100 of kit then return the stuff you don't need/wnt
Doesnt usually work - they usually calculate the refund based on removing the discount if you no longer qualify for it. Having said that, it DID work once, when they presumably made a mistake.0 -
interesting thing is my renewal came through today and both the renewal letter and the membership booklet still say the benefits are you get 10% discount at Chain Reaction, theres no mention of a required minimum spend at all, in fact the letter combines it with the Halfords discount "10% off everything at Halfords and Chain Reaction Cycles" so theres plenty of room to get confused about what the deal is.
although the booklet was published May 2015, so they are still sending booklets out to members with details of a benefit that has changed in the meantime.
but there you go as others have said I never joined for the discount, it was the insurance and early access tickets for track cycling that won me over0 -
Have tried to find this discount on BC tonight as I have something from Chain Reaction I want to buy which is over £100. Instructions state "Access your member dashboard, where your unique promo code will be displayed", however I can't see any sign of the promo code anywhere. Is this offer still running or am I just being an idiot and missing the obvious?0
-
There is an interesting point here - if you took out membership on the basis of the benefits and they then change/reduce them, have they broken the agreement with you? It might seem petty in this instance but surely if you contract a service for a year, should you not be entitled to that service or better for the entire period?
I took up a membership in a final salary pension scheme and then they changed the rules... it seems a bit more fundamental to me than the 50 quid you leave to BC for one year!
Yet, there is pretty much fuxkall I can do about it... :evil:left the forum March 20230 -

Mine isn't there. But I used it on around 20th December. Could be per user month rather than calendar month. Have you used your last one within a month of now?My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Mmm, checked my emails and last used in July 2015. I'm sure I remember it being per calendar month. I hope its just been forgotten about due to the Christmas holiday. I've asked them the question via email. I'll check again tomorrow and report back.0
