British Cycling 10% Chain Reaction Discount - £99 min spend

It would seem that the British Cycling 10% Chain Reaction Cycles discount is now only valid on a £99 minimum spend, which is quite frankly pointless in my opinion, because they have similar promotions nearly every other week.

It wasn't once a month though. Once the code was punched in then it lasted for that calendar month."You really think you can burn off sugar with exercise?" downhill paul0 -
That sucks !!0

It really does suck.
So in the last year BC have not only increased membership prices but also reduced the benefits of the membership.
Not impressed at all.0 -
You still get 10% of everything at Halfords and if used wisely then that alone can pay for your membership. Some people are never happy. If your joining BC for discounts then your probably joining for the wrong reasons.0

Noone said that they're only joining for the discounts.
Do you want me to write an exhaustive list of all the other benefits that haven't changed at all and that I'm still happy with?!0 -

I disagree. Over the last year i have often questioned why i keep the membership, and if there was a way to get a race licence without having BC membership then i would not renew my subscription.
Its not just about the discount changes, its about the fact that the membership does not have as many benefits as it did when i first joined, and yet the price has increased :?0 -
The key feature that BC offers for me is a) the race license and b) the third party liability cover.
If there is ever an instance where you are in an accident it's nice to know you are covered.
A friend of mine was descending Coldharbour Lane in Dorking, Surrey. A MINI overtook and then slammed on brakes as another car came the other way (very narrow lane). Wet conditions and the steepness of the hill combined in him not stopping in time and smashing through the rear windshield of the MINI. All ok and fortunately no injuries, he immediately told driver to contact BC and quote his membership number and all was sorted eventually.
Nice to know that you have the cover and in all honesty I still think it's good value.BikeRadar Communities Manager0 -
I think the main issue here is that BC and/or CRC have effectively moved the goalposts. So the offer is no longer the same deal that was originally advertised.0

Perhaps but it is just a benefit rather than part of the membership surely?
Agreed.0 -

Maybe, but what is wrong is that there was no notice of the change. They did the exact same thing when the Wiggle 12% discount was scrapped - one day it was there, the next gone. They send a newsletter every Thursday so why not mention it in there?!!0 -
Well, I got a great deal on a one-year lease of an Abarth 595 Turismo thanks to my BC membership - I has probably paid for quite a few years of BC membership - without, as mentioned above, the standard benefits of membership.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

Nothing was wrong with that, it may not have been courteous but it wasn't wrong0 -

I completely disagree. All members should have been notified of any changes to terms and conditions in advance.0 -
There is an interesting point here - if you took out membership on the basis of the benefits and they then change/reduce them, have they broken the agreement with you? It might seem petty in this instance but surely if you contract a service for a year, should you not be entitled to that service or better for the entire period?0

As stated in your terms and conditions
* British Cycling and Chain Reaction Cycles reserve the right to end this promo at any time
So you were notified before you paid your membership, if you read the T&C before renewing/joining as they suggest.my isetta is a 300cc bike0 -
I had reason to use the insurance and legal services and I have to say that protection more than covered the membership for me.
I did buy stuff when the Wiggle members page was live but its not key for me.
There are some pre-black Friday offers for British Cycling members and Chain Reaction I read in an email.0 -

That would be accurate if the promotion had ended, but it hasn't.0 -

So it turns out there was info about the change in the newsletter sent at the end of October, so i take back my comments about not receiving notice.
Still very disappointed, but there we go.0 -
Some people love to moan don't theythey.
If all the discounts disappeared overnight it is still incredible value for the free legal representation and insurance it offers.
If all you want are the offers save yourself the best part of 30 quid and just go here everyday

My code isn't working at all. Just says code not valid. Got £160 in the basket. Anyone else got the same thing?0

No, not at all. Its the principle. If you purchase membership you expect the terms to be honoured for the duration of the membership.
The discount might still be there for orders over £99, and for some people the change from 10% off all orders to this may not make a difference, but for others who found the discount extremely useful then the change is a big deal.Chris Bass wrote:.

If people just accept BC changing terms when they feel like it then what happens if they suddenly amend the legal representation or 3rd party insurance terms?? I imagine you would be complaining then?!!0 -

Offers aren't part of the terms, they are a benefit, perk, added advantage, whatever you want to call it. The terms state that they are subject to change. :roll:0 -
I'm only in it for the free sticker and at £33 I'm extremely impressed.
I could work out the actual cost per cm2 to make it sound even better but as MrsHD's car needed fuel I'm in that today and by the time I'm home will probably have forgoten about it because, in reality, it's the square root of fuck all...Advocate of disc brakes.0 -
What a bunch of moany old tossers. You'd save more than 10% by not shopping at CR anyway.
Speaking of which...not long left for the annual BC rinsing fee....0 -

On the ocasional bargain maybe, but on day to day shopping I doubt it and invite you to prove it with not one, but 8 items...
LBS is always more expensive but "its my LBS..." etc.
Not that I'm upset as I've already paid for my menbership through discounts and I'm happy about the cover on the road.Advocate of disc brakes.0
