Coolest car for £30k

All cars today are fast; and none are. Even those moderns suggested have a slightly anodyne, ABS, wide-tyred, cosseted, emission-controlled, traction-controlled, electronic, vanilla washing-machine blandness to them.
Nothing these days is truly fast outside a racing circuit - and even there, many cars which feel fast on the road are too comfortable sprung to perform at track speeds and braking and cornering levels...
So don't go for speed; go for the impression of speed. A Frogeye Sprite has as much power (without tuning) as its brakes and tyres can handle. Your bum is next to the tarmac and everything comes through the wheel and pedals... but it lacks the number of seats and doors you seek...
So what about an E12 or E28 5 Series? Anything with six cylinders will be exciting - or you could go smaller and get an E30 3 Series, maybe even an decent M3.... All that stuff feels terribly fast on public roads and at legal speeds. A lot of the more modern stuff doesn't.
Go for that golden period where rear seatbelts were fitted but electronics and crazy-wide tyres were still in the distant future.
My lasting impression of people driving hopped-up versions of the (admittedly pretty) Fiat 500 is that they seem more interested in being seen than in having a giggle. I may be wrong.0 -
New you say?
Nearly new, even better!
But you will have to wait a few months.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
Camaro or Charger V8 (would be LHD) or maybe a new mustang V8 if you need RHD.
You didn't say fastest or that you wanted it to go round corners - you said coolest.0 -
No to a Cooper or Cooper S as they are all driven round here by bankers wives and some bloke I know who's an utter bellend.
I don't get this way of thinking. If it's an excellent car, go ahead and drive it. So many shun 3 and 5 series because of 'perceived image' when they are some of the best affordable cars out there.
Also, WAG should not be able to sell a single car any more. What is wrong with you, people
And almost forgot to contribute to the thread - GTR34. There.0 -

E30 Alpina 2.7 "yes please" better than the M3 of the time0 -

They do sound quite good, not supercar amazing of course but still pretty fine. Plus I've always been an absolute sucker for a racy four-door saloon, not sure why but they are just my car of choice. (I'd love a Jag XF-R) A petrolhead mate sent me this a while ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVLYEArftes0 -

+1.
As long as you don't mind getting on very friendly terms with your local dealer once per month for the next 3 years.
Heart not head.
But I still really want one.

Or for a more practical car...I really like these and am considering getting one. Bikes in the boot, or plenty of space, looks cool and not mentioning Skoda's support of cycling.0

Meh.
You can get a big sunroof on it too. If that's not cool then I don't know what is!

Plus 1 to that.
I hate to agree with RC but his Zombie link was spot on. Why was the VW Transporter (Sportline?) idea shunned?seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

A great all-round, all-year car for our part of the country. 170bhp/250ftlbs diseasal has loads of poke. Great on winter tyres. Can do 4 bikes on the roof and fully loaded with passengers/luggage easily.
You would still have £5k spare. For £30k - Golf R
8)All the gear, but no idea...0
