What I don't quite grasp is how he got hold of the D lock. The only way I can see this working is if it's either rattling loose on the handlebars or in his hands whilst cycling; both of which would annoy me enormously.

In a holster, ready for a quick draw?

I use a steel cord in conjunction with a D-Lock and have seen people with a similar set up have it slung over their shoulder.

Of course if this alleged rampaging hooligan is a repeat offender he may have perfected a method of striking out.

Ooooh - I thought I was the only one who used 'The Cronx'! Nice to see it enter the common vernacular!

I first heard it from a cycling buddy who has the misfortune to live in New Addington. It's like part of Croydon only worse :|

Story has to be BS, or at the very least a severe stretching of the truth. Having become a first time father in the last two weeks my thoughts are in overdrive on this one.

If my baby was showered in glass like this my actions would be as follows
    1. Panic and get to my baby as fast as possible. Ensure she is ok and happy and comfort her as much as possible, getting them away from any glass.
    2. Kill/maim the perpetrator

I'm not a remotely violent person, but this would cross the line. If that person couldn't hide/get away they would have been in serious danger from me. The only thing that would save them is the fact that I needed to stay and protect my baby.

I do imagine the reality is that the cyclist was provoked/cut up/nearly killed by a close pass (if this really was a D-Lock incident). Wouldn't affect the actions described above.

One other thing: who the hell takes a photo of their baby covered in glass rather than getting their baby out of the glass? Some seriously fucked up priorities here.

Seems to me that there was a shouting match between the woman and the cyclist and things got heated. She hints at this by saying that she told the cyclist to 'Have some consideration, we've got L plates on and a baby in the back' - although early reports dont include her telling the cyclist there was a baby in the back - this seems to have been added later. Smacks of someone who knows more than that was said but thinks nobody will be able to prove the detail so has watered it down to something that seems reasonable and hides the abuse that I personally think she shouted.

Still doesnt excuse D Lock but if we knew the truth it might be more understandable at least - I certainly dont believe for one moment that the cyclist knew the baby was there.

Perhaps the cyclist wasn't some lycra clad roadie ... but was a dutch style with a baby on the back - or perhaps it was a lycra clad roadie, but he'd been riding with his partner who had a baby in the carrier on the back and this car had only just missed them - although if that were me I wouldn't be d-locking a rear window - I'd do the windscreen so they couldn't carry on driving ...

but it probably wasn't quite that extreme ...

I don't want to automatically defend the cyclist but I think there is something amiss in this story. For example, how does she know he rides the same route everyday ? there is history here. however, it is inexcusable for the cyclist to break the window.

Whatever happened to that lunatic Jeremy Rundle? WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!
Did I not read that the baby didn't even wake up throughout the whole thing? As with others on here I'm sure there is more to it than is being reported, but that doesn't excuse the actions of the guy.

Well - depends how much is true - perhaps he didn't hit it with his D-Lock at all ...

perhaps the car pulled out of a side road the the cyclist hit the brakes, got the front wheel in a pothole and ended up headbutting the rear passenger window - with his helmet ....
  • I'm half tempted to say that we need a few more stories like this.
If people think that dangerous driving around cyclists is going to get them a good seeing to, they might be a bit more careful.

Obviously no babies in the back though.

And I'm only saying "half tempted".

Good, then you are only being half stupid. :?
Of course we don't need stories like this, babies or no babies.
And there is no justification for this scumbag doing this.
I do agree however about taking photos of the baby covered in glass being a sign of peoples priorities seriously screwed up.

yeah, totally, and then if we can encourage a few drivers to run some more cyclists over then it might make the rest of the take more care on their bikes.
