Is anyone using trainerroad with this turbo: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/elite-crono-power-fluid-wireless-trainer/?

Cannot find it in the supported turbos list, but maybe it has the same resistance unit as one of the supported ones, anyone know?

Cheers

Steve

I don't think that's the best choice TBH.

The resistance unit (i.e. the metal bit with the radiator fins on) on the Elite Crono Fluid Elastogel is much smaller than your one. This will be the key determining factor in the speed-to-power calibration curve, so IMO you'd be much better off going with something like the Elite Qubo Power Fluid. This is exactly the same resistance unit, but with the updated Qubo frame vs the old Crono one.

Having said that, if you've already done your FTP test, I'd stick with whatever you've chosen for now and switch it over for your next test...

In that case, I'd definitely go for the Qubo Power Fluid then. The resistance unit on this model (and yours) looks a lot beefier than the Crono Fluid, so I suspect the calibration curves are likely quite different especially at higher power outputs.

Good luck for when you do get around to it!
  • I just ran this by our power curve guy and he would also recommend the Elite Qubo Power Fluid. While the Eslastogel option is good, the resistance unit on the Crono Power Fluid is just about identical to that of the Qubo Power Fluid.

I've just signed up for TR and found there are two options for my Cycleops Jet Fluid Pro - Recommended and Powertap. Strangely it is the Powertap one that closely matches the power curve shown in the manual whereas the Recommended one is a good 35% low around 20mph.

I know which ever I use can be used as a baseline and show any improvements but was still a little surprised.

Will probably use the Powertap it's closest to figures I'm used to and feel it more reflects my actual power based on how I compare with friends who have Power meters

If you don't mind me asking, how are you comparing the curves to the one in the manual? If you find that the Powertap option is closer, definitely use that one. Both curves are relatively similar, but you should stick with the one you're more comfortable with.

Nothing scientific just checking a few specific speeds and comparing the displayed power on TR with that of the power curve in the manual eg at 20mph TR says about 210W for the 'Recommended' option but the manual says about 275W and this is similar to the 'Powertap' option.
