Always an interesting race. Galloping Foxley with a late attack à la Phinney for the win.0

The Longest Sprint Race on the Calendar.
I expect another solo ride from Niki Terpstra as a good training ride without traffic and just like he did in
Binche - Chimay - Binche.

:-D
I was using the most important metric in judging whether it was just another small race or deserving of its own thread - it is the last race of the PTP season and thus is elevated from the common mass of the shoot small races.0 -

It is fashionable as identified by FJS here. Although on the original iainf chipper list PAris Tours doesn't score highly.0 -
-
It's famously the only thing Merckx never won.
Apart from that a mixed bag of winners, one day specialists, GT winners, sprinters and even climbers (though Virenque's was a bit of a one off).
I'd probably go see the start but it seems to get further away from Paris every year.0 -
Still find it odd seeing it after Lombardi
Lombardi is too early now?0 -

Correct. My cynicism towards our chipper chart being slightly biased.
I was told last week (admittedly only by one poster) that Milan-Turin, despite being "live", a semi-classic and HC, 20 years older than Paris-Tours and having a far better startlist: "Didn't merit a thread of it's own".
This race has in recent years become but a shadow of it's former self. Hardly any of the top sprinters now bother to turn up."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
I quite like this one... The hills at the end have made it more open and attacking.
We could debate the lack of a true sprinters classic nowadays.0 -
Could perhaps argue that Scheldeprijs is a sprinters classic?
The last couple of editions of Paris Tours I thought were pretty good. The question is, will Degenkolb attack and then refuse to co-operate with his escapees like in recent years?0 -

Pfft.
Never won the Ras.

The only OTHER thing his father had never won......0 -
I think i might have been Donald Dewitte who said being himself and Merckx they'd won everything in cycling. He'd won Paris-Tours and Merckx had won everything else0

Don't think the moustache is riding this year. To be honest it is hard to look past Bouhanni in the sprinter stakes; if he manages to get to end without tarmacking it at least once. GvA has won it and done well several times before and is riding0 -
Be a good win for Bouhanni after a lean year, be nice to reward Cofidis with some return on what must be a decent salary.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

Needed for him and Cofidis - this year was pretty much just points in Dauphine Libere and in Circuit Cycliste Sarthe; he had bad luck in too many races - I thought he was nailed on for some Vuelta wins till that dreadful crash*. He does strike me as the sort of sportsman for whom the phrase "you make your own luck" applies - and this season the luck has been bad
* That was the horrid day when Kris Boeckmans went down. Just checked up and has undergone considerable facial surgery but is out of hospital and recently his twitter stream had a picture of him on a turbo trainer

I went Crawley Crits one year and met a very unassuming man who won Paris-Tours in 1953.
It was, I think, the biggest race he won and he was Eddy's hero when Eddy was growing up.
At last I know something of historic importance in a thread!!0 -

Just seen today's top ten (via inrng) - amazing roster for a shoot small race.

(I know the're not sprinters, point is that they must be paying a lot to bring them in).0 -

3 stages out of 4 are "Sprinter Stages" and why Paris-Tours has lost out to "Petro-Dollars".

Poels timed his attack perfectly and just lost his bike out from under him on the penultimate corner. Gentlemanly of Chaves not to celebrate too hard0 -

Turns out there's 26 riders up front. Maybe a dozen in the chase. 2'34" with 31km to go0 -
French Land Army attack off the front of the lead group. Everyone just looks at each other.. Gap down to two minutes0

Four off the front after the little climb. Trentin plus GVA, 9km to go0
