High heart rate after minor crash

A week ago I had a minor off on my bike, fell off at low speed, landed on my eblow and and scuffed my hands up, which has been pretty painful while it's been healing. Didn't bang my head or anything else.

But ever since apart from the injuries it's felt like my heart has just been beating fast all the time. Measuring my HR at rest is giving about 85-90bpm when I would normally be more like 60-65.

Is this normal as the body recovers from injury?

PS Just finished the final Clarithromyin (antibotics) dose today and I take Atorvastatin for high cholesterol.

No, I wouldn't say that's normal for a minor/superficial injury. Unless you've done more damage to your hand/elbow than you think..?

Have you taken any painkillers since your off? If so, check they haven't had caffeine in them.

So many things can cause the HR to fluctuate. A lack of sleep (perhaps from the pain of your injuries) or if you had a stressful week on top of your accident could likely cause a higher HR.

I would keep an eye on it and have a few easy days. If it doesn't go back to normal by by the end of the week then i would book an appointment to see your doc.

Yeah paracetemol, and Syndol (which does have caffine), as does the coffee I've been drinking for that matter, but then that's nothing unusual. I'll stay off the caffeine for the time being.

Cheers, yeah the pain in my hands when trying to do anything has been pretty stressful, even though the injuries to my hands are pretty minor.

pain causes adrenalin which raises BPM. So does internal bleeding (initially) and concussion. If you are fit that does sound like a GP might be worth a call or NHS direct. The other thing that is common is clots from bruising. If you have a large area of dark bruising it's worth getting looked at.

Elbow damage is a funny thing you can do a fair amount more than you think in a light and or slow accident, I've broken my radial head going less than 10 mph and yes your body will be working much harder to try and repair its self.
