Need to change bike after spinal surgery?

I was cycling often on an endurance road bike before having a TLIF due to a herniated disc impinging upon my spinal cord. I'm still healing but am about 2.5 months in recovery. During PT, I asked the therapist about road biking. He implied that I should never ride a road bike again due to the aggressive angles. I ride on an endurance road bike mostly on the hoods. Plus, I have an adjustable stem at +45 degrees. I took a picture of my on a hybrid compared to my road bike. There was a noticeable difference but it wasn't huge (maybe 8-10 degrees). I really like my road bike but will sell it for a "flat bar road bike" like a Giant FastRoad Comax if need be. Will this really make a huge difference? Anyone else experience this? I'm willing to do what it takes if necessary.

I know guys who have had the same operation and are back on road bikes. I will need the same op in the future and find road bikes my only option.
I would suggest you get a second opinion as an upright bike will cause you more pain than a decent road bike with a proper bike fit.Trek,,,, too cool for school ,, apparently0 -
Aren't there massive variations of this operation? I think it is going to depend on your range of movement.
You can always come further forward on a bike, e.g. inline post, drop the nose a bit etc. But I would go with the expert advice and perhaps ask more targeted questions. i.e. what if I.... rather than can I...0
