Well i've spent a lot of time looking at various options carbon & alloy both clinchers.

At the moment i swayed towards the following.

    ZTR Alpha 340
    20/28 spoke count
    American classics micro 58
    American classic 205
    aluminum nipples
    2 0r 3 cross spoke pattern - CX-ray spokes

    Should come in around 1250-1300g

Be interested to hear anyones thoughts.

Go with Ryde Pulse Sprint rims rather than the ZTR Alpha 340s. Wider, stiffer, just about same weight and better with clinchers.
  • I've come across 2 further options

    Alpha 340
Novatecs rebranded as superstar volt evo hubs
    Cx ray spokes
    20/24

    £371

    Or

As above with sapim laser buttered spokes

    £264

    Both weight about 1385g
Show me your green bits i might buy them !

Personally I'd go with the Lasers; that's a good price and I doubt the aero benefit of CX-Rays adds up to much on a 340 rim. I build mine with Sapim D-Light, which are slightly heavier but stronger (and easier to work with) than Lasers. Weight sounds about right. I think mine come in at a little over 1400 with rim tape and valves. Can't comment on Superstars build quality - never seen a set from them. I will remind you that 340s need to be retensioned after fitting the tyre as the rim shrinks under the compression of the tubeless bead and detensions the spokes. So if you're buying them bare, don't forget to budget for tape, valves, tyres and a retension from your local wheelbuilder.
  • Well I've finally concluded on a wheelset and ordered...gone in the completely opposite direction.

I had always been keen on a full carbon aero clincher and almost bought the token c28 wheelset having missed out on the Reynolds 46 carbon clincher that chain reaction had on offer over black Friday.

I had already been looking at superstar wheelsets and already own a stans mtb wheelbuild (no issues despite some posts on here, I think it's hit or miss or minimal).

Checked back to superstar and looked at the c46 full carbon rim, rumour is they actually source the rim from Reynolds anyway.

So icon hubs, Cx ray spokes, alloy nipples and c46 full carbon rim. They should be with me
soon, I expect weight to come in around 1450g.

They had 25% off over the weekend. Did you order then?
If not, i would suggest waiting as i can guarantee they will run the offer again for 1 day leading up to Christmas

Yes i did the wheels came in @ £401...pretty reasonable considering a Chinese set would cost about the same if you allowed for import duty
