How to simulate high gradient.
ie, If I climb an 8% grade in 34-28, what higher gearing is needed to simulate a 16% grade on the same 8% grade?

You can't, the inertia and bike position and therefore pedalling dynamics will always be different.Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0

As Jim says - it doesn't work like that. You can simulate the effort, but not the gearing.0

"You can simulate the effort"
OK, how?0 -
By wacking it down the cassette a few cogs lol0

If you ride at threshold up climbs, you can also ride at threshold on the flat. The dynamics may be different, but the effort is the same.0 -

i would say that a 16% climb wont be ridden at TH but way above (as a 16% hill in the UK will be very short) and standing too, so a couple gears higher than your 28t and cadence around the 60 to 70 range.
Of course you may not be able to get up on a 23 in which case you ll just need to work on your fitness.
would help if you also said why you want to do this?0 -
Buy a Kickr and simulate the gradient indoors.0
