The Program

Don't know if this has been discussed on here or not, I couldn't see anything in the search but I'm not very good at stopping it from giving me every single topic with "program" in it... Feel free to delete/merge if necessary...
Basically a film adaptation of Seven Deadly Sins.
Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXfp859pcM0
Apparently Ben Foster actually followed "Lance's doping program" (presumably some lightweight version of it without the blood bags) as part of "getting in character".
The Grauniad has given it a decent review (if that means anything ).
I guess I'll probably go and see it. Bad in that it keeps Lance's name in the media but apparently it doesn't pull any punches or make him look good, so that's positive.

I'm hoping to get to see it, time allowing.
I can't imagine he followed Lance's doping program though. Lets face it, it's still not known exactly what that program was.2020 Reilly Spectre - raw titanium
2020 Merida Reacto Disc Ltd - black on black
2015 CAAD8 105 - very green - stripped to turbo bike
2018 Planet X Exocet 2 - grey
The departed:
2017 Cervelo R3 DI2 - sold
Boardman CX Team - sold
Cannondale Synapse - broken
Cube Streamer - stolen
Boardman Road Comp - stolen0 -
Maybe not the exact dosages - but the basic doping methods he used and drugs are known ?0

I was assuming Foster would have done something similar to that reporter who micro-dosed EPO to "test" the bio passport system, i.e., take smaller doses of the safer drugs. I somehow doubt that Foster was removing and then reinfusing his own blood (although I'm basing this on absolutely nothing).0

Looking forward to us lot picking apart all period incorrect bikes/clothing/accessories, geographical inaccuracies etc. From what's visible in the trailer, it looks to have been done with at least a medium tooth comb. Problem with a 'Sports' film is always getting the details right that 'heavyweight' fans will notice.Edinburgh Revolution Curve

^which is why I'm going to watch it with non-cyclists!0

You mean that berks will bring up on here to try make themselves sound clever when there's no point as it will be a hollywood film aimed at anyone not just berks.0 -

Oakley radars, and hollow tech bottom brackets in that trailer........
Is it just me for does that trailer make it seem like a comedy to anyone else?0 -
Ah well mfin, ozzzy seems to have got the ball rolling. . .
Hmmm , you would think it wouldn't be too hard to get some M frames though.Edinburgh Revolution Curve

Good actor is Ben Foster. So fed up of biopics though. I'll watch it begrudgingly.0

Can we get a 'no spoilers' in this thread title?

Seems Emma O'Reilly has kicked off at Ben Foster 'doping', all in all pretty small fry compared to other stories of actors researching roles to the extreme. If indeed Lance is painted properly, I'm not sure its such a weighty insult?

Why does she think it's ironic?“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -
Has anyone told her it's not real and that Ben Foster isn't actually entering any races?"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Isn't this just an extension of what some actors do with HGH etc. (particularly the older ones) along with intensive gym programs to get in shape for action films? The only difference is that they are publically admitting to it for this film so it can be used as part of the publicity.0

Maybe she subscribes to the Alanis Morissette school of irony?0 -

Maybe Emma would have been happier for the actor playing Tyler Hamilton to dope up. She was quite happy helping USPS dope for the Tour in the pre Lance era if I remember correctly. She was also quite happy helping Lance dope / cover up positive test in 1999 as well, so her reported comments now seem slightly strange. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she's been selectively quoted or quoted out of context here.0 -
Isn't this called method acting? Actors do it all the time. Chris O'Dowd seems to think it was a good idea

The bit I'm not keen on is Foster saying that "Doping is not the reason why Lance Armstrong won". Oh really? I (and millions of others) beg to differ.0

The fact that the actor playing David Walsh thinks its fine for the actor playing Lance Armstrong to take doping products in order to enhance his performance is truly ironic!0 -
Wh.. why would he dope himself for this role? What's the point of that.0

That green screen scene where he celebrates, in what has nothing to do with with a finish line, looks... interesting..0

I had assumed it was so that when he was cycling it would look like he was going at "pro speed"We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Method acting, darling.
Get with the program.Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy0 -
I'm honestly not sure how anyone can get worked up about this.
Presumably the making of Easy Rider must have caused Emma O' Reilley's head to spin."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

So he could experience for himself what it feels like to take shoot, the effect on his body, any psychological effect. Understanding that side of the character.0 -

Understanding that side of the character.Dustin Hoffman is the source of one of the most famous method acting stories in film, revolving around his intense preparation for his role in Marathon Man. The story goes that Hoffman refused to sleep for days at a time to better portray his character’s deteriorating physical and psychological frame of mind, but when he saw his co-star Laurence Olivier sitting comfortably in a chair, he asked how he was able to make his performance so real. After a moment, Olivier told Hoffman, “Dear boy, it’s called acting.”0 -

Ah, but maybe he aspires to race, and will fly through from Cat 4 to Cat 1 in a season (or whatever Cats they use across the pond) :shock:0 -

Not quite buying that.
I can undestand someone playing a prisoner gets to know a prison environment by visiting and staying in a prison with inmates to some degree but I fail to see how injecting EPO into the blood vessel could make you anymore in character when you sit on a stationary bicycle in front of a green screen.0 -
5 to 1 from reccollection.
Very method. Looking forward to seeing this.0
