Could use some advice on getting to the start. I live in Harrow and have in mind jumping on a train to Central London and the riding to the start. Assuming I'm not in the first couple of waves which would make it too early for this option.
Riding home from the finish will be fine.
Does this sound workable to those that have ridden in the past?
Totally doable.
I guess that train comes in to Euston? As long as you can manage to point yourself East and start cycling in vaguely the right direction you'll soon find yourself in a peloton of other cyclists heading out to Stratford for the start.
Thanks Buck, yep Euston or Marylebone - whichever one starts running earliest really, as you say turn left out of the station and follow everyone else!
Depending on your starting wave the train may not be an option as in my experience they do not start early enough on a Sunday. If it were a weekday it wouldn't be a problem, but on a Sunday my first train doesn't arrive into London until about 7, which is too late for all but the later start times. I've booked a refundable hotel room and will decide nearer the time an exact plan of action. I was in one of the earliest waves last year and found driving in and parking a big hassle and was a bit late for the wave closure (although they weren't strict about this).

Carbonator wrote:Anyone got the email about signing up to offers from Evans?
I tried to sign up (from both Mac and iPhone) but it said the information was not secure.
I sent it anyway, but nothing seemed to happen.
No 'thank you for signing up' screen/message, and no confirmation email.
Have not bought much online with Evans, but that always seems to go t1ts up too!
Is it just my computer, or do other people have issues?
The 'Rider Card' idea sounds good if it works.0 -

Glad its not just me 8)
Did you try in the evening/at night?
I just tried again and it worked first time. Got a message saying details have been submitted to database.
Maybe the Evans site only works during the day, as other issues I had have all been in the evening/night time.0 -

Mmm I've had a rethink on this, and will probably drive part way into London - somewhere like Hammersmith and bike across town from there. That way I haven't got too far to get back from the finish.0 -
Got a place. Forgot to register in time for the 5pm deadline today. Great.

Oops, that's why I do it on the day I know I'm in. I know I'd forget otherwise.0 -
Carbonator wrote:For those that are in ...... Pay now so there is no chance of you forgetting and losing your place!
Sorry to hear people forgot to pay.
I did my best to help.0 -
I was in two minds whether to bother this year anyway - done it a couple of times already and the timing is a bit awkward (ended up having to plan family holiday around it last year). So, happy to let someone else have a go this year, hopefully I'll be on a beach somewhere!0

I initially had issues, but it worked after the initial hiccough. I've just got a voucher for a free entry to a RIDE IT sportive, as my first freebie goodie. I don't do Sportives, unless they are free, or it's the PRLS, so I may well do this one.0 -
It seems pretty good that Evans and Endura are the official retail and clothing partners.0

Is this open to charity riders as well. I haven't received anything about the discount.0 -
Good point.
I guess it depends when your failed ballot entry gets linked up with your charity place.
Cannot remember if you resubmit your details or if they use the ones they already have.
Would have thought you then get all the emails from both RideLondon and Evans.0 -

What is the story with these Evans offers? I got a place in the ballot, should I have received an email from Evans?

The original email is from Prudential RideLondon....from there you can sign up to the Evans Riders Card. My email came on the 23-Feb.0

Hi
I have got a ballot place for this years Ride London, I have never rode ride London before and i'm looking for some general tips/advice on traveling to the start etc, I will be coming in from my daughters in Addlestone more than likely by car.
I will be getting my daughter to register for me as I am away on holiday (cruise) and arriving back on the Saturday at some point, I know this is cutting it fine but has been booked for over a year.
any tips advice would be very much appreciatedSpecialized Camber Expert

Make sure you follow the procedure for having someone else registering for you. Getting to the start by car, from Addlestone, is going to be tricky. You'd be best advised to drive to Richmond, and get one of the special trains, the organisers have laid on, from Richmond to Stratford. You will need to book on to the train in advance, the magazine you receive closer to the event will explain all this for you.0 -

There will be quite a bit of parking available at that time on a Sunday, and the train was free last year.
I have a suspicion that the train was actually from Hampton Court, not Richmond, but the magazine will have the exact details, closer to the day. I stayed in the Travelodge at Waterloo last year, and rode to the start, I'm doing it again this year.0 -

It was from Richmond. Hampton Court would have been easier for me , personally - but Richmond is not a problem either & is also easier for anyone driving in from M4.

"This year, we are again running an overground rail service from Richmond to Stratford on the London Overground. There will be three specially chartered trains, which will leave from Richmond and call at Acton Central, Willesden Junction, Hampstead Heath and Highbury & Islington before arriving at Stratford. "0 -
Yep, the train was from Richmond. It is the overground line that loops up and through North London.
I was too late to bag a place on it last year so ended up staying with my brother in Hackney, which was actually perfect as I only had a leisurely 10 min spin to the start0 -

Last year I drove to London Bridge car park (one of the official car parks) and cycled 8 miles to the start. It was about 3 miles from the finish back to the car park. I looked at the train option, but it would have added even more time to the journey in.0 -
Looks like a shorter event will also be running too https://www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/events/46/ .
The short route riders will be doing the first 27 miles then taking a short cut and rejoining for the final 17. In isolation it sounds like a great event for novice riders and families to do together although i'm not sure how wise it is having them rejoin the course when large groups of considerably faster riders are on the return journey!0 -

I agree that it sounds a bit 'iffy' to feed newbie / novices, back into the main pack, however, the point at which they feed back in is a nice wide suburban part of the course, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue. If they were fed back in, in a tight bit in Surrey, then it might be a bit more . It's a good idea ( in theory ).0
