May as well start the Ride London 2016 thread at some point.

Due to not being able to take part this year, my place has already been confirmed for 2016! Yay me!

    New sponsor due as well...

    ...anyone have any ideas?

  • When you say 'already confirmed' I presume you haven't had anything through yet? I'm also deferring due to a broken thumb on the Etape, think they said we'd be contacted in October? Just making sure I haven't missed any vital emails!

I had a charity place this year, but was unable to take part, so they've already confirmed my inclusion for 2016.

    Hotel booked.
Going to try staying at/near EXEL next year. Premier Inn Stratford was good the first two years, but shocking that they did not do a decent early breakfast this year!

signed up again and really hope I get in this time too. Done it the past three years and great day out on the bike.

Hopefully they think about the route a bit, not sure if Leith Hill is suitable for that many riders. Also if people are getting off at the bottom they should be turned back and made to detour. if you get off straiht away why even bother doing the hill

If you get off straight away, why even bother doing the event!

Signed up for the second year running. Decided not to donate my entry fee so if I don't get a place then I'm sure that I can live without the jersey.

Comments on bailing on Leith Hill. C'mon people. It's not a race it's a day out for most participating to say that they've done it. If you're collecting £000s for charity who cares how you get round. So let everyone enjoy cycling how they want to.

I'm surprised the ballot hasn't filled up for this - given the supposedly massive increase in interest. Has the cycling peaked or is it just that cyclists can't be bothered being mugged out of the entrance fee, Excel nonsense and general 'issues' and costs incurred?

Mugged? how do you work that out?
All been argued about before of course, but there are far worse ways to spend £50
No one is being forced to take part.
The London Marathon is about the same price isn't it? Do runners whinge about that in the same way as so many cyclists do about RideLondon?

Are you saying you want to do it but pay less? If so, how much would not be being 'mugged'?
Agree with all the other things you mentioned being a factor, but so what if the ballot has not filled?

There is also the conspiracy theory that it has more than filled, but that all those extra people donating the entry will be very welcomed, so why close? 8)
Probably nothing wrong with not having a limit to the ballot at all anyway.

Didn't it get to 80% in a day or two last year, and yet stayed open for weeks?
That does not add up to me 8)

I was hoping a new sponsor would be found. Spice things up a bit.
Seems as though no one else was interested.

I enjoyed this last year, good weather etc and mostly well run (apart from running out of food at the midway food stop). Can't say I'd do it again though.

The entry fee is good value as far as I'm concerned and there are not many options for a closed road 100 mile ride that takes in really iconic locations. The real hastle is the registration - having to go to London twice for one event. That and the transport/parking issues around having different start and finish locations made it more expensive and more tiring than I expected.

Does anyone know when the ballot results are due for this?

I seem to recall seeing 8th of Feb somewhere but that could be completely wrong...

Its during February, but in the past there has been a back door website link posted that gave us a heads up. It would be nice if a 2016 was available?

The results are in ... well - mine and the wife's anyway ... I've got a place, she hasn't ... not that it's a major issue that she hasn't (well I hope not anyway)
Just need to decide if I'm actually going to do it this year. Had a place last year - but arrival of No 1 Son stopped all that... logistics would've been a nightmare - and I wouldn't have stayed awake long enough either... ;)

3 out of 3 (4 out of 4? Can't remember!) for rejections for me.

3 out of 3 acceptances for my wife.

Ah well. We'll make inquiries about doing it on the tandem again.

Commiserations magazine received again! Am I right in thinking that as a white, 40 something male of just-above-average speed, I probably have the smallest chance of ever getting a ballot place? Might apply as a 60 year old female estimating a 4 hour finish next time.

<---male in 40s of about average speed as well. No chance!

Whilst it is frustrating, I do hope that they are able to expand female participation in particular along the lines with what they've achieved with the Marathon.

Amazingly, I'm in :D I've had three commiserations in the past (although took a charity place in 2014) so am pleasantly surprised.

So that's the Fred followed by RideLondon - not a bad duo!!

Sorry to hear about people being disappointed.
Postie just came and It was traumatic opening them.

Wife and I both in this year.
Late 40's, white, 100 miles from London, and both sub 5 hours if that helps the conspiracy theories.

I think having done it before in decent times may have some affect on getting in.
I feel as the numbers increase, they like to know how best to manage the flow.
Also feel you may have a better chance if you have previously taken a charity place.

    Don't give up!
Wife won a competition a couple of years ago, and I took a charity place the first year.
Keep an eye on Prudential and sponsors who may have places on offer.

I don't think age or race has anything to do with the ballot. It's possibly weighted towards those earning more money for charity rather than speed or age of riders.

It is a charity event after or not a full on sportive

Maybe its just random (like a real Ballot), but I don't think it is.

I think I got the place allocated for that type of rider ....

I'm in! Third time lucky in the ballot. Done once before for charity, in 2014, so hoping for a dry one!

Even if they decide what mix of riders they want (which I am sure they do), you would still be in with a shot at the number of places set aside for your grouping.

If they do do that, then everyone who gets a place is getting it 'unfairly', which is ultimately fair.

For those that are in ...... Pay now so there is no chance of you forgetting and losing your place!
