Tour of Britain Stage 6 Stoke to Nottingham **SPOILERS**
Stoke to Nottingham
A nice ride across the peak district from the Potteries to the home of British Bike-building
Stage 6 Map by imatfaal avidya, on Flickr
There are some nasty ramps en route - but enough flat at the end for sprinters/WT teams to bring it back together for a bunch sprint
Staqge 6 Profile by imatfaal avidya, on Flickr
The Kilns and Robin Hood in the same view - and a yellow Flame Rouge; still a nice piece of art

Mike Cumming. JLT might have a bit of a showing as the route goes near his house!
Race overall seems a bit lacklustre. WT Hriders look tired or de motivated or worlds on their minds.0 -

I cant get to the race till tomorrow, but mates who's been at team buses after the finishes say that the teams on the whole are pretty whacked at this point.0 -

1st Sprint results:
1. EBH (MTN)
2. Doull (WGN)
3. Poels (SKY)
Front group altogether, have 5'15" on the 80 (!) rider grupetto0 -

This. Amazing how often you hear overseas riders saying the stage didn't look too bad on paper and the hills looked pretty low - but that the stage in the riding was really difficult; I hope it's not just our sh1tty British roads0 -

A few factors:
much of the terrain is unrelenting, undulating
climbs tend to be short but sharp
road surface is heavy compared to Europe and the US
all of which is wearing on the legs with much accumulated fatigue over the 8 days
Plus, with our roads that tend to twist and turn so much, and high hedgerows etc, its easy for breakaway riders to disappear out of site - which can make it difficult to measure gaps between breakaway riders and chasers0 -

The race is coming into Buxton now. This is of course where Buxton Water comes from #AvivaToB2015
:roll:0 -
Half the race out the back is quite astonishing.
Unbelievable how difficult British teams find it when PT teams turn up with riders tired after a long season.
Not sure why they put themselves through it to be honest.

Now we have some interesting action:
Van Baarle, Langeveld, Stybar, Stannard, Kueng, Kruijswijk, Geoghegan Hart, Trentin
Have nearly a minute on chasing pack
Very strong group that one and will be very determined. Stybar best placed at only 38 secs back on GC.Contador is the Greatest0 -
Now leading group of 8, with 43" on the group behind (incl EBH, Poels, Doull), with grupetto possibly still in the last county
Van Baarle
Langeweld
Stybar
Stannard
Kueng
Kruijiswijk
Geoghegan Hart
(8th rider not yet identified)
MTN are in for a fun day
EDIT: Trentin's the 8th rider in the break0 -

Probably just trying to save himself the shame of getting beaten in a sprint tomorrow and the day after.Contador is the Greatest0 -
amazing the experience these riders already have - Van Baarle already ridden a Tour de France and won the ToB at 22
Kung been in the Giro this year at 21
no wonder GB team is 19 !0 -
Cracking off really. EBH and Poels make it to the front group...then Poels attacks.
Riders off the back are nearly 22 mins down  Time cut 12%.
Now Langeveld,Trentin, Stannard, Keung, Izagirre are leading thinks with Tankink and the Shadow Sprinter trying to bridge.
24 riders in the yellow jersey group who are 1.30 behind those few off the front.Contador is the Greatest0 -
75km to race
Debusschere (LTS), Tankink (TLJ), Trentin (EQS), Izaagirre (MOV), Keung (BMC) and Langeveld(TGS)
have 1min on the yellow jersey group
which is being led by PK, followed by 3 other Sky riders, followed by Poels, followed by EBH who has no teammates.
Gruppetto (basically 75% of the riders) were last sighted having a coffee and cake...hard to break a habit.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Brian Smith sounds a bit constipated announcing Cioleck was the last team mate to be dropped - on the relatively straightforward Long Hill - what happened to Tekla and Pauwels (who was 4th on that Tourmalet stage this year) ??0 -
Younger wonder Kueng is not messing about here. Proper racer 55ks out with Izagirre (going to Sky next year...). Sky led peloton is 50 secs behind them.
Rest of the race are nearly 30 mins down. Going to need to speed up to make the cut.Contador is the Greatest0 -
Police will be happy keeping roads closed that long0
-
Rode out to Long Hill above Buxton earlier, nice day but very windy on the tops. Lead group of 30 or so were drilling it, peloton/grupetto were already 10 mins down and were not!0

Trentin the only survivor gets caught by Edvald who went solo with 3.5km.
Edvald leads out the sprint and then Trentin takes the win.
Peloton very close behind and 3rd is taken by Doull. Was former TdF winner in the group helping his teammate...?
Very impressive racing from those in the front groups. Their legs must be totally smoked.
Cut off is about 34mins.
Edvald has 13 seconds over Poels now.Contador is the Greatest0
