I'm a big Bond fan (picture below is the wall to the left of my desk now)

I was a bit disappointed with No Time To Die, the plot was just too contrived for me even by Bond standards. That said it was better than Spectre which I fell asleep watching in the cinema (although I had flown back from NYC the previous night and had no sleep) and I struggled to make sense of it the second time I watched it.

Daniel Craig's Bond hit a high in Casino Royale that it never got close to again although Skyfall was enjoyable.

I finally gave in and watched it, knowing that I was not going to like it: In that respect, No Time to Die didn't let me down.
It felt almost like a re-shoot of a Skyfall and Spectre combo, only longer. Certainly contrived and totally lacking in continuity, it's plot more resembled an Avenger movie than a Bond blockbuster. And not just the plot, but the revival of bad cgi, last seen in the awful, Die Another Day. Cheap and nasty.

I felt sorry for the "other" 007, as the had obviously blown all the cash by the time they got to her wardrobe. Still, at least they had dropped the strenuous "00" physical requirements in order for M's gang to become more diverse.
Oh and a the final Hollywood touch: the cute kid.

Time for the franchise to Die, for sure.

Dreadful post. It’s actually given me a headache it was that bad. I would flag it but I’m not that mean.

    Two very different films.
Samaritan on Amazon. Stallone does superhero. Appears to have learned from the genre that less is more. Not high end viewing but much better than expected.

The Virtuoso on Netflix. Slow yet very tense. Well worth a watch, if you can tolerate inner thoughts being over dubbed. There is a lot of that.

No prizes for guessing the plot twist in either though.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

    School's out forever.
Post apocalyptic pandemic British public school comes under siege.
Clearly not highbrow but well done. Not OTT and quite enjoyable.

    Ghost World.

Nothing to do with Ghosts. Watched this again with the family yesterday. Two teenage girls are unsure what to do with their lives after graduating high school.

It’s actually a lot better than it sounds. Great cast of quirky characters ( The nunchuck swinging convenience store disrupter, should have more screen time IMHO) give it 15mins to warm up and you’ll be rewarded with a decent comedy drama.

    The Gentlemen

Slightly weird one as I only knew about it because of clips on social media. It was actually rather good. A bunch of hollywood actors make a Lahndahn Gangster film.

Another Guy Ritchie, but think Layer Cake. I'm not sure it's quite as good as them but it's a very creditable fourth. I genuinely think that it might be Hugh Grant's (yes, really) best-ever performance.

High Grant will never top his performance in Paddington 2.

On the subject of Guy Ritchie, the last film I watched was Arthur: Legend of the Sword or something like that. The wife put it on and I knew nothing about it but within a few minutes said it felt like a Guy Ritchie film and turned out it was. Absolutely awful film starring Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy.

Watched it the other night - 1.5 hours of my life I'll never get back. There's a good reason for it currently having 18% on Rotten Tomatoes. Thought the lure of Anthony Hopkins would save it but quite possibly one of the worst films I've ever seen. To call it a B-Movie would be generous!

    Agree.

(Though his performance in "The Gentlemen" does run a close second.)

Everything, Everywhere, All at Once on Amazon. A well reviewed multiverse film.
I should have known from "Multiverse" that it wasn't for me.
That said, quite funny and more pathos than most worthy films.

Belfast. Decent acting performances from a strong cast and I felt in captured the place and time well but the storyline was a bit limited.

Moneyball. Brad Pitt in a film about baseball. Based on a true story.

Know nothing about the game but this was enjoyable. One of the better sports films I've seen. Jonah Hill good in a largely serious role.

I absolutely totally agree. Virtuoso is a shocking film. After watching a few other poor films recently I now look at the reviews prior to watching.

However, as you say, the presence of Anthony Hopkins made me skip the review. He was certainly slumming it in this outing. And afterwards, when I did look at the reviews, every man and his dog slaughtered it, lol.

Top notch nostalgia. Pleasantly surprised. Tom Cruise is still bona fide action star 35 years later.

Just finished watching it ourselves.. Fun picking out the dialogue that they lifted from the first film :) Other than that, parked the brain and just enjoyed it for what it was.

    21.

Reasonably entertaining, based on the story of the MIT card counting students.

Kevin Spacey always watchable, hamming it up in a similar role to his one in Baby Driver.

    6/10.

Watched Avatar in 3D at the cinema.
It remains visually stunning and the 3D is very impressive.
Knew exactly what I was getting with the film and it’s the first time I’ve ever paid to rewatch a film I’ve seen before but was happy I did so.
Kyboshed by a fire alarm with about 30 mins left.

If you don’t like the film, don’t go watch it. If you’re umming and ahhing, go watch it, you won’t regret it.

It should have been the only 3D film ever made.

I agree that as a "visual feast" or a standalone piece of "art" it was an amazing bit of work.

Not a great film by any means but Gravity was a 3D feast.

Ok, I don't think I had the pleasure in the shonky ski resort cinema I saw that in so I will accept your suggestion.

For anyone not watching E4 tonight I have to nominate hippie dude at the end of Independence Day as one of the best movie deaths...

    Iplayer-fest

Both the Paddingtons - so late to this party I don't expect any of you need to hear what awful, but somehow charming schmaltz they are...

OG Wallace & Gromit - still the best chase scene ever committed to film

I was having a chat with a mate the other day and this acquaintance of ours came up in conversation and how he’s got plenty of money.. he said “yeah but you know who his father in law is don’t ya?”

“It’s that geezer who was involved in that Essex boys shooting”
    😳😳

So I watched ‘Rise of the foot soldier last night’.

    Yeah.. quite violent that one.

For about the 1000th time I watched Frozen.

Seems to have its claws in my little one but what a terrible plot. Whole thing makes no sense.

There's a new film come out on Netflix called "Lou". I thought it was quite good, well worth a watch.

Also, I started watching the Jeff Dahmer series, also on Netflix. What I like about these programmes is that we all know what happened, but these programmes go a lot more in depth as to how he became the monster he did. It's not for the faint hearted, quite disturbing.

True. Much more watchable. A series just about the brutal murders and capture might not have been palatable.

It’s very grim, frustrating, anger inducing and generally unpleasant.

The guy is simultaneously a totally pathetic individual and a horrific monster.

It’s apparently caused a bit of controversy over its artistic license.
