NIce... the price of the full bike is very tempting... are you going to get one? You are clearly short of a gravel bike...left the forum March 20230

Viner went bust a few years ago - P-X have bought the goodwill/licencing the brand name and sticking them on generic Chinese frames. Facebook page for Viner Cicli is registered to Sheffield! They're doing the same with Tomac and fatbikes. P-X are now Sports Direct of the bike world.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I've been looking at a genesis datum but overpriced at moment whereas this looks very good value especially using Planet X 5% of everything discount voucher UK05discount.
Anyone seen them in the flesh and as bendertherobot mentioned I would like to see pics of anthracite/red0 -
The alternative colour I posted above is actually the original colour. But from above.
This is the actual alternative. Not as nice, IMO.

I stand by my comments - since Brant Richards left they haven't come out with a single, original product - they've been buying up 'dead' brands and flogging open-mould frames with said stickers on the premise that it's a premium product - they want £900 for a Tomac fatbike frame that can be bought direct for £300.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Yep. All a bit British Leyland badge engineering from the 70s/80s

These PX Viner's are nothing like an original Viner.0 -
I wouldn't spit on a carbon or titanium frame for less than a grand if they are good quality. Look at Canyon... they cost a lot more and half of them fall apart... in the grand scheme of things, Planet X is still a very good buyleft the forum March 20230

come on guys - thats a bit harsh wonder what would mike ashley would reckon to the viner record , or the new 753 holdsworth frame we are producing in the uk .
viner record -
lugs bought directly from richard sachs
tubing from columbus sourced by lorenzo altissimo 30 years in the italian cycling industry
built and for us in italy by my friend giovanni battaglin
we use chinese manufactures and taiwan manufacturers , as well as usa , vietnam , italy and uk .
if i understand it correctly most major brands have virtually all production in china and taiwan so its fair to say we are doing things differently , genesis only produce in taiwan and china .
remember we do assemble all our bikes in the uk and we are second only to brompton in terms of bicycle assembly .
we are even working with reynolds and they are producing for us uk made 753 tubing for the first time n over 20 years , and we are hand building the frames in the uk , painting in the uk .
there are two sides to every story , having taken a back seat from the business for a year or so you should rest assured that we are actually trying our best , i think its fair to say on-one was one of the first brands to break the traditional distribution model which ultimately gave customers more choice and better value which has to be a good thing .
of course we have also cocked up over the years and been through a lot of learning curves , i would back our current "team" way over the previous team , brant did a great spell with us but i can assure you that was not without a lot of problems (dont mention el guapo at planet x !) and we are in great hands road wise with jamie burrow leading our design team, he has great knowledge ,passion and experience and should be given a chance. he is backed up by mark lovatt as head mechanic , chief tester and rh man plus frame design and tech support by mark reilly who has been building frames for 25 plus years and who the designer behind enigma titanium frames and is now working on the planet x new titanium frame range .
"Record:
This is where Viner came from, they have undisputed heritage and real class in steel frames and that remains as true today as it every was during steel's heyday. The Viner Record is handmade from oversized, PegoRichie tubing, (Spirit for lugs) and investment cast lugs. The Record is Viner's finest steel frame and it mixes old world craftsmanship with thoroughly modern frame specification standards to create a frame of uncompromising quality and authentic beauty.
The Record is available now, as framesets or fully built bikes. If you're looking to build up a retro road ride look no further, the quality on these has to be seen to be believed."0 -

half of canyons fall apart?0

I've no doubt Dave's help shake-up the traditional cycling business with his B-2-C model - but the P-X/O-O model was also built on unique products at a great prices. I've had a few bikes pass through my hands. But the market has moved on - I can buy frames direct from reputable makers in China. But P-X is no longer cheap and the products no longer unique...Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

half of canyons fall apart?
I know lots of people with Canyons, only one of whom has had issues with their bike (snapped seatstay). compare that to clubmates with cervelo's, and i'd rather go Canyon every time.0 -

Brilliant. So where do you stand on Jaguar or Aston Martin or Lamborghini and their heritage? Did it disappear with the change of ownership? Did it change with the different design teams or supply chains used to produce them? How about the various "re-badging" that goes on throughout other industries? Electronics has to be the best, would you pay twice as much for a Pioneer screen than one of the cheaper brands that use their products but rebadge them? And so on and so on.
Heritage is a load of old bollocks, either you like the stuff or you don't and you either perceive it as good value or you don't. Leave all the "yes but it's not a proper Viner" out of it, it's completely irrelevant.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

i like the new viner it looks very nice . maybe its not the same as the old viners but that doesnt mean its bad just differant.
i have a planet x pro carbon i really like the bike it is decent quality for the money. i dont like that the same bike can now be brought in TK Maxx....... but that doesnt make it a worse bike than it was when i brought it (just means people take the piss out of you more especially co workers  ). it also probably means i wont buy another planet x branded bike unfortunatly but i might be tempted to look at there other brandsViner

So why did Planet X buy the brand name then? If it wasn't to sell frames and bikes off the back of Viner's heritage?
I'm not saying that these new Viner's are bad bikes, just pointing out that PX are selling their version of a Viner off the back of the old Viner heritage.
