Pleased for Chavez - losing the lead due to a bunch split is unfortunate.0

Completely mistimed again.
Relative statement though. He timed it better than Valverde. Chavez was very strong.0 -
Flip me that was boring, behind Chaves and Dumoulin.
Valverde sucks the life out of yet another uphill finish."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Just rewatched poor Steve Cummings - just as he turned onto the steep section, Chaves sweeps past and Cummings legs just give out; I thought he was gonna put a foot down.0 -

My man from the beginning does it again. Awesome. Thank goodness that Dutch guy loses his jersey and I am not sure how he is climbing so well in anycase.Contador is the Greatest0

Hey... Chaves, great. Really pleased.“You may think that; I couldn’t possibly comment!”

Yep. GC shenanigans commence tomorrow, lots holding something back today.0 -

You're surprised a man who can finish 3'rd in Tour de Suisse can climb ok? You know he's been talked of as a future GC guy, right?Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
Just seen highlights. Credit to young Chaves and Dumoulin for keeping things lively. Will be interesting to see, from tomorrow, how well they both do when there's some proper climbing to do. There could be some surprises with all those TdF stars0

I watched the TDS stage he monstered and said as much all over the spoiler thread so am aware of his talents. These climbs so for are for explosive or lightweight climbers whereas he is just a gear crusher to me. It doesnt matter much - he is just another Dutch rider I have no joy for.Contador is the Greatest0 -

I was thinking this as well. Will also be interesting to see how Dan Martin does.0 -

I'd imagine he will put in an ill timed attack from 1km out and miss out once again.0 -
Is it really mistiming things to not follow the first man to attack? If he went with Chaves and both got caught and passed I suspect the same people would be saying he mistimed it again by going too early. Dan Martin mistiming is this season's 'Froome is a terrible bike handler'.0

Another stage with Valverde written all over it.
You'd almost think the organisers had done it on purpose.
It's like if the Tour of Britain were composed entirely of flat ITTs.
Like 2013 you mean?
Um, does 1 flat 10 mile TT equal 'composed entirely of flat ITTs' then? The other 7 stages on that race included 3 hilly stages (1 'MTF' and another that went over Honnister Pass), 2 lumpy stages and 2 flat sprint stages so pretty well balanced.
The Vuelta in recent years has had about a quarter of its stages with these short, sharp uphill sprint finishes that two Spaniards happen to excel at riding. I don't have a problem with them preparing a wicket to suit the home team but it gets a bit repetitive. That said I don't think this year has been so bad with two of the finishes being longer, proper hills though still steep.0 -
There was a lot to like on that stage. Brave effort by Cummings, practicaly riding to a stand still on the climb. Surprising early attcak by Chaves to get back the jersey (love this guy) and gutsy chase by Dumoulin while all the GC guys marked each other. Dan Martin aiming for the Peter Sagan award.0

According to Martin the road book has been wrong twice because it has said the ramps were significantly steeper than they actually were.Contador is the Greatest0 -
