Single speed chain line
Hi all
I am after some help with single speed chain line.
I currently have a vintage Raleigh frame, with 120mm rear drop outs, a track wheel with single speed freewheel (sturmey archer 18t), a single speed crankset (Sturmey Archer FCS70 44t) and a 110mm bottom bracket (Shimano UN55).
the recommended bb width from sturmey archer was 111mm so I thought the 1mm would be ok, but my chain line is way off.. with the crankset needing to move closer to the frame.
when looking at the crank arm it did seem that it wasn't very far onto the taper.
could it be I bought a JIS bb and needed an ISO??
any help would be much appreciated.

can you fit the chainring the other side of the spider? (closer to the frame)0

its already on that side of the spider, then it has a chain guard on the outside0 -
ah ok.
maybe take to your LBS to check if it's the correct BB type then?
111 or 110mm are still quite wide, can get a 102mm from memory - so you could go narrower if you've got clearance for the chainring past the chain stay0 -
so I gave the crank arm a good bash to get it further onto the BB. it seemed to go on much further and is now only slightly out. I have ordered a couple of freewheel spacers from Evans to try and adjust slightly:

having just picked these up there are not at all like the photo. they are in fact notched to fit a hub0

just a quick update. I had read online that a BB thread is the same so I threaded on a spare BB lock ring I had, this acts as a perfect spacer and the chain line is now perfect.
hope this helps someone else0
