God I Hate Facebook

Long story but basically my second wife made a comment about families and birthdays on the above which my daughter (21)from previous marriage got to hear about and took it out of context.
Result - so basically they have now gone from a very good relationship to the point where they now are refusing to want to see each other again. And somehow this is all my fault and am thinking WTF and I don't even subscribe to the bloody thing!!

Families, eh? Who'd have 'em?Ecrasez l’infame0

I don't do Facebook either, but I know an awful lot of people that do. I've never seen the need to share the minutiae of my life - it is not interesting enough. Surely people aren't really interested in what you've had for dinner?
My daughter is off to Oz for 12 months so I will probably open an account. Perhaps it will be the only account with one 'friend'0 -
Use it for messenger... not much else.
Never really understood it.0 -
My daughter has fb and jeez the amount of rows it used to cause with friends at school but eventually they learn not to take it sooooo seriously, anyway, its snap chat and instagram now.
My daughter fell out with my GF by having a (small) party, letting a couple boys drive her car around a field and smashing it into a parked m/c.... in our family, we believe in traditional (fall out) values
oh they ve made up now but it did cost her £500 of her savings.0 -

I use it, it's useful to keep in the loop what rides people are doing and stuff like that, I don't post pictures of what i'm having for dinner on it. As already said the "kids" have all moved on to other social media now anyway so useless for keeping tabs on them.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0

I use it.
But the 'minutiae' point mentioned above is something I leave well alone. In fact I rarely put anything on there I mainly use it to keep in contact with the rest of the family, although even some family members aren't in my lists.
These people you see with x 100 of friends, yeah right
A recent addition to my facebook page is something called ' FB purity'. This cleans up all the crap that comes over with facebook, and puts it back to how it used to be when it first appeared. Eg, the 'news feed' stays with 'most recent' instead of reverting to 'top stories' all the time. Oh yes, and all the adverts disappear
Facebook hate it.

Bottom bracket contributers minus the intellect and informed insight + inane and boorish crap content x unstable and emotional responses / contributors = Facebook“Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Does God have any control over Facebook? The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Check out the stats on broken relationships, marriages, family disputes and killings and you will be shocked !!!
Facebook is similar to forums in that things can be taken out of context and often are, you don't get to understand the real meanings of posts and you have twisted people all too willing to jump in the make matters worse.
Think of it like a bunch of onlookers "egging" the potential suicide victim to jump off the bridge.
I find it brilliant how people convince themselves that its a good business tool yet reality is that this is rarely the case. It is aimed at the modern day guy in the tree with a pair of binoculars looking in on others lives.
Another thing to beware of is tags held within the source of FaceBook which show too many things people really wouldn't want others to know. Its a hackers dream and so easy to catch people out.
Only recently I was blamed for posting something on Facebook about someone in a legal matter, of course it wasn't me but to prove this to the court I simply scanned the source code which clearly showed that the guy blaming me was the perpetrator, he had logged in with a different made up email account and made a very bad comment. He then logged in with his real account and deleted it but not before he quickly took a screenshot and deleted it, (at 02.16am so that no one would really see it).
What he didn't realise is that Facebook logs the IP of each poster and the IP matched identically from the two posts which are held within the source code.
This guy is now being charged under the contempt of court process and misses of evidence. He is looking at upto 2 years in jail.Living MY dream.0 -

I use it, as with this place don't take things too seriously and ignore a lot of the BS that pops up.0 -

Its rather scary how it finds people you might now. Ex girfriends etc... People you really don't want to get back in touch with etc.
Its so easy to read written stuff out of context. keeps lawyers out of the doll queue though.0 -

I opted out of Google+ for similar reasons. That seemed to be searching and linking my accounts with each other, Capt Slog and other aliases. If I'd wanted that to happen, I'd have done it myself. It means that i can't comment on youtube now, what a blow that's been.

Facebook is brilliant at making normally regular folk come across as total morons. At their own doing of course. I left it a long while ago now as two mates in particular used to post, or probably still do, complete crap. One was constantly posting pictures of his damn cats. I'd known them for years and still saw them socially and they were still OK people to drink with so didn't feel I could unfriend them but equally I couldn't read that rubbish anymore.
The thing is if I hadn't already known them and someone showed me their feeds and what they posted then I would read it and decide I wouldn't want anything to do with them. It's just how it seems to bring out the dull idiot in people.0 -
Facebook users consist of two groups of people:
1. People lying about their life, making it out to be more interesting than it is.
2. People that believe the lies, conclude that others have a better life then their own, and suck up to them to bathe in a little reflected glory.
The two groups are not mutually exclusive. No wonder teenagers are so full of angst these days.Is the gorilla tired yet?0 -

Yes, without doubt. As mentioned earlier, someone I know is looking down the barrel of a custodial sentence due to Facebook statements and I've read many accounts of Facebook being used to bring charges against people, including penal sentences.Living MY dream.0
