What's the difference?
What are the pros and cons?
What should I buy for use with BB7 on the road in all conditions?

Organic. Sintered are good when you have wear issues (off-road mud/sand) but will be at the expense of some braking capability and disc wear.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

As per MRS, for road use Organic are better, they wear the disc slower, you don't have to worry about the high wear rate with mud issue and they have better fade characteristics if you work them hard than sintered.
Or get some Superstar Kevlar which are pretty much the best of both worlds!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
I've used both on my BB7's, organic all the way for me.
I recommend Superstar Components.0 -
Ordered 4 sets of organic pads from Superstar."If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got."

Not sure why he says that, many users (one here) are very happy with SS pads, identical pads are sold under many brand names, Uberbike for example.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Indeed, I see that now, there is a reason it is called the lowest form of whit I am sure!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

don't buy the cheapo yellow sintered ones off ebay - they die quicker than good organics!0

Great service from superstar.
Pads look good. should have a years worth. Got a funky catalogue and some stickers.
They also chucked in haribo and i didn't have to pay postage."If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got."

A years worth? I've only fitted one new set of pads (front) to my commuter in 5500 miles (calipers bought with used pads to start with). The MTB can of course get through them much faster!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Any idea what pads I should get for Shimano BR-RS785 discs? I want to get some of the kevlar ones as I had them in my Hylex brakes but I'm not sure which ones to get and I don't want to go by 'they look about right'. My Google-fu is failing so I don't seem to be able to find anywhere that says which pads I should use.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

BR-RS785 is a brake calliper not a disc.
http://si.shimano.com/php/download.php?file=pdf/ev/EV-BR-RS785-3743C.pdf shows the pad shape, just compare to the pad finder on Superstars website
http://www.superstarcomponents.com/library/pdf/BrakePadIdentifiier.pdf It's the same pad as the latest XT (M785/M8000).
For a road bike I'd use organic alloy backed (lightweight) pads from Uber, or is it for CX?Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

Clearly, why would a disc need pads.......
I've done the shape comparison, I was hoping to get some sort of documented evidence or statement form Shimano as to the part number. As mentioned, I didn't want to go on the policy of 'they look the same'.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

I've always used sintered. Recently put organic in the front and wearing through them a lot quicker for not much more performance (canal commute). Think I'll go back to sintered.FCN 9 || FCN 50

I've found that with my BB7s the organic pads squeal a lot, if its even slightly damp then it gets much, much worse, I got some semi-sintered pads and the squealing has disappeared until its properly wet and they've lasted through the entire winter, spring and are still going strong. The previous organic pads lasted the autumn and died as soon as there was more grit/rubbish on the roads.FCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0

Pads are a mystery... the same pad can be awesome, terrible or anything in between in any condition. Now I have squealing pads in the dry, but they become mute when the air is a bit damp...
Pads wear is another mystery... they can last forever and then self destruct in one hour... I just buy lots of spares and not worry about the all pads debate
get a pair, get any...left the forum March 20230 -

I still think discs are the dogs danglies, but they do have their foibles. I'm going to try Uber next time I get some, gone off Superstar.0 -

I use generic organic's on the commute/town MTB never squeaks pads last and last, my wife's bike glazes a few times a year.
The Trance is normally quiet did squeal for a few mins on its first drop off the hill (1/4 mile -25% average) but that burnt off the squeak as you where.
It does eat pads rather quicker.
Using disks plus MTB soft grippy tyres has made life so much hassle free.0 -

Is it just me that struggles to change pads on BB7's? It looks like it should be so simple but I always end up making a meal of trying to get the new pads in.0

That's about the only thing I found easy on BB7s.Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.0
