Events are ticketed & sponsors pay too.
It's an interesting one. You could perhaps understand their appeal in a previous age because coverage wasn't great so these might be one of the few chances you'd get to see your heroes.
Nowadays though, it's rare for their to be a day when there isn't a race of some kind on Eurosport, so is there such a need for fixed criteriums? I suppose there must be as they're still operating but I can't really understand who'd pay to go and see one.[/quote]
