Why there is no fighting in last TDF stage?

Well I know this is some kind of unwritten rule and this stage is just ceremony but then this stage is totally pointless. Logically Movistar could try attack and ride like in team TT to try Quintana win the yellow jersey. And I'm not talking only about this year tour-what about 2007? Evans lost just 23 seconds, this was very easy to bring down.

It's flat, any move is going to get brought back by a combination of yellow jersey and sprint teams0
-
Apart from the above, it would really, really piss the entire peloton off if anyone tried.
They're completely knackered, looking forward to the now traditional parade into Paris, only the sprinters teams have anything much to do. The sprinters have dragged themselves over the Alps to get here, their one last chance for a stage. Anyone trying to mix it up would be so unpopular they'd never win a race again.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -

It's not totally pointless if you're a sprinter. There is more to the TDF than the GC.Correlation is not causation.0 -
All of the above but mainly it would just be a forlorn effort. Can you imagine Stannard and Rowe just watching as Nairo and his mates ride off the front and into a one minute plus lead?0
-
I've always wondered what would happen if there was say 10 seconds between 1st and 2nd in the GC and the forecast was for crosswinds and rain on the road to Paris. Would they still do the ceremonial champagne drinking? Because that would seem very presumptuous. Under those circumstances the lead could quite easily change.0

Yeah - they will always do the champagne stuff; it is gold dust for the sponsors
There is a huge chunk of the final stage in the street of Paris where you aren't gonna get the crosswinds and the teams would have a chance to draw back any advantage. Even if gaps appeared the sprinters and the other GCers would have time to drag them back. 70km of tomorrows 109km is on the Paris circuit.
I would still love to see it - but it ain't gonna happen0 -

With the huge publicity of the final sprint on Champs Elysees will there every be another final stage time trial?0

Yes but a couple of years before that the tour de france was won by a panzer brigade supported by the luftwaffe, which is equally unlikely to happen any time soon...0 -

No there won't. Although until very recently a time trial on the final Saturday was traditional.0 -
There was once... When Jeroen Blijvens lamped Bobby Julich and they both got DQ'd."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I would like to see Froome puncture in the last 500m and, in panic, take Richie's bike to cross the finish line

An unmissable affirmation of fraternité with Froome, from the peloton, would be welcome today. Cycling is grand theatre, and Paris an apt stage for grandiose up yours....a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0

It would be interesting to see what would happen if the race leader had a bad crash or illness that meant they could carry on riding but not hold the pace when the racing started. Would the others in the top 10 or so ride behind the main race or would it be tough luck?0

Also an interesting tactical position, in that his major rivals were clearly in worse shape (having lost significant time in the 139km time trial - 139km! - although I'm not sure how much I trust Wikipedia, given they list this as the 18th or 19th stage at various points) and the last stage was monstrously long - Caen - Paris. If you ran something like that as a last stage today then it might conceivably give you some hope, especially if there was any chance of echelons, but the modern finish with multiple laps of the Champs is unlikely to change now.0 -

Well the Giro this year showed that it is perfectly possible to have a crash with 3.2km to go. I don't think it has every happened on the final stage of a GT, but it is a risk and I can't see anyone waiting. I can see lots of talk afterwards about how they should have waited though.0 -
A few years ago they ended the GC race some laps before the actual end of the Tour as I remember.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0

I know they can do that - but has it been confirmed that they have done so. I cannot see it on any of the TdF websites0 -

Prudhomme himself just confirmed it to Froome.
Times taken @ 41km but riders still need to finish the whole course.0 -
