Thank you for reminding me. Haven't plugged mine into the PC when recharging but will have to for uploading a route soon. Just turned off auto update in Garmin Connect but the update is already there waiting. How do I get rid of it?
Just upload the route from the laptop that doesn't have Connect I guess.

i've also downloaded the 3.62b software just in case this gets totally out of control.

2.8 is what you want. That's the last time the Garmin firmware wasn't sh1te.

i tried another ride with v4.2 this morning, with segments off and maps set to custom zoom etc. all went well for the first few miles then it looked like my route wanted to take me through the forest which doesnt have a paved road, now my route i've done dozens of times and it doesnt go that way, all of the reroute options were disabled so how that happened is a total mystery, good one Garmin.

well 6 miles in the unit starts beeping download complete multiple times, i figured this SOB is downloading more segments, yep i was right so i disabled bluetooth and continued to follow the route semi successfully for another 9 miles before i notice that the turn directions are actually the wrong way around ie. left instead of right etc.

at that point i binned to course and went off piste, seriously how have Garmin gotten this soooo wrong, its shocking, almost like no one did any QA at all.

on another note does anyone know if its possible on the 810 to access the course setting and device main menu while doing a course?

for the life of me i could see a way.

so glad i kept my 705 now, i can see me ditching the 810 the minute someone else comes up with a viable alternative.

I don't think so - but do you need it to? Just stop the course, change whatever setting you want and then restart the course. That doesn't stop the recording so you still end up with a single ride.

Not really a step forward in technology, although I've found that manually setting map detail levels on the 810 rather than the auto low level gives a much better map, significantly better than the same map on my 705.
