My Future Man (or Woman)
We've seen a few young riders coming through that people on this forum have picked up on before they hit the big time so who is the rider, male or female, that you are tipping for big things? Rules are one pick only and they have to ride at Continental level or lower at present.
For me it's Scott Davies. It might seem an easy pick after his ride yesterday but I've been keeping an eye on him for a few years as a friend who used to be in my club has been helping his training. Won in the U23 national TT last year as an 18 year old followed by a top 10 finish in a tough Commonwealth Games RR, 7th in the World Junior TT, 10th in this year's Sun Tour and a past winner of the Junior Tour of Wales (which is often a good place to see future stars). He has somehow come through with less publicity than some of his contemparies such as Geoghan Hart, Burton and Dunbar.

Knocking on a bit now, but Dimitiri Claeys has never really had the chance he deserves and is knocking on the door of OPQS for the second half of the season. Also, he works in the Oxfam in town...

Lewis Mulholland who's riding for the Scottish junior track squad at the moment is a beast too. Former Johnstone Wheelers club mate of mine who was killing time trials on restricted gears. Don't know how far he can go, but he's a cracking wee rider."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

But Davis, Doull interest me as Welshmen and I'd like to see Edmondson get his act together.
Going abroad I've previously tipped Silvio Herklotz for big things.
I've got TGH as well. I'll have Burton when he's ready. And that Irish lad that Merckx liked :-)Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -
You can have just one! And Eddie 'Merckx' Dunbar is taken ; )Contador is the Greatest0

This is going to take a few years to nurture but Joseph Nally.
Local lad, humble as hell and just an absolute legripper!

I'm going to pick some of local lads (well local to me) in Jake Kelly, Matthew Bostock and Nathan Draper. The next 2 or 3 years will show if they can make the transition to the pro peleton0

He's Thai and he's not on anyone's radar let alone mine but given the huge growth in popularity of cycling here and the fact that the average Thai has a physique perfectly suited to climbing, I bags the youngster from Thailand who shocks everyone to take the polka jersey in the 2023 TDF.
In the meantime I will take Olivier Le Gac.0 -

lots of good kids coming through, shame the academy IMO has taken a step back from developing road talent as the likes of Scott Davies, Alex Peters would go well if they had what Pete Kennaugh had being based in Italy on terrain that suits them. Dunbar won't hang around at conti level for long if this season is anything to go by.
I will go for James McLaughlin currently with Madison, not had a breakthrough yet despite being 24 but w/kg is insane.
Yellowperil Draper is doing the island games in jersey I think?0 -

I was going to mention Alex, he seems to have been around a while and I keep thinking he's older than he is. I keep expecting him to break through, maybe this will be that season?0 -

From a Welsh perspective there's also Sam Harrison and Zach May. I'm not sure what route Zach will take but Sam and Owain look like they'll concentrate on the track primarily for a few years.0 -

I think you're right Ozzy. Quite a young team this time around Rochey has finally hung up his cleats.0 -

That would be me, Mr Doctor man
I've spent a lot of time training with Alex this year so I've got some knowledge of what he's capable of. His results this year speak for themselves though; a stage of the Tour de Bretagne, beating TdF finisher Delaplace in the 3 up sprint. 2nd in the Tour de Normandie earlier this year as well, which probably would have been the win had he not taken a tumble when his main rival took the stage.ozzzyosborn206 wrote:the likes of Scott Davies, Alex Peters would go well if they had what Pete Kennaugh had being based in Italy on terrain that suits them
I feel that GB have missed a trick in focussing so stubbornly on road riders that ride track. It's telling that Tao and Alex ride for foreign teams and are both excelling. Many brits that are passed up by GB can succeed on their own terms, such as Scott Davies or, more embarrassingly, Adam Yates.I'm on Twitter! I hope that one of the domestic teams gets to Pro Conti level to give them a more obvious pathway. NFTO seem likely with Aberdeen on board.Twitter: @RichN950 -

Where's he riding now? I'd been looking for him in Yorkshire thinking he was still at Madison. Seems like a good few years since I first saw him at the Abergavenny round of the circuit series, he must have still been a junior.
I guess BC concentrate on riders with a track pedigree as that's where the Olympic medals and therefore their funding comes from. It's the big flaw in the system.0 -
He's riding with the dutch SEG development team. SEG are a rider agency that started up a [predominantly] U23 team. They're really good and have been supporting him and his team mates well. The only downside is we won't see him in the UK much this year! (or an upside if you have to race against him )

Tao and Peters went past me on the Dunwich Dynamo while they were 14 and they were flying. They were nice guys too when we had a little chat. Soft spot for them ever since.Contador is the Greatest0

I think Germain Burton has massive potential. Provided he stays grounded and sticks with the national squad for a couple of years rather than chasing cash with a pro team I think he has a great chance of being the best prospect in Britain.Fat chopper. Some racing. Some testing. Some crashing.

a lot of eyebrows were raised when alex turned down the track but I reckon he will make it.... he basically is making it.
good luck to you too ...say hi to rhys for me, I would myself but i haven't got strong enough optical devices handy to see his rear wheel these days"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way.
