The Shit, Small Races Thread
Figured this might be a useful resource for details around smaller races which might not be deserving of their own thread.

Geniez with 40s with 8.5km to go. Applying the 1minute/km rule it's gonna end in a sprint.Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy0

Despite what Brian Smith said there, Cofidis looked pretty well drilled. Easy for Bouhanni. Coquard went backwards despite being well placed.0

Agreed. They didn't string the peloton out from 10k to go like HTC, but they don't have the riders of that calibre. Once they got down to the last 3 lead-out men - who will be the guys leading him out at the tour - they took the race by the scruff of the neck.
Coquard is missing Reza imo. That guy was immense in the sprints at the Tour, which make me confused as to why he isn't leading out Demare - especially as that was the job he was hired to do.Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy0 -

Re: Cofidis, I thought so too.
Coquard was well placed, but unlike Bouhanni, left alone in the wind, so he had to start his sprint very early.
As soon as Bouhanni kicked, the difference was obvious."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Good point, I just watched again and Coquard was behind just one teammate for the last 800m, pretty exposed, and then was in the wind from about 400-300m to go.0 -
My man Vallee was 2nd. My other man, Manzin, was 8th. Come on the youngsters.0

Surely this should be all about the races Greipel has got coming up?0

Super tough day today in Vuelta a Asturias. Only a 33km/h average. Anton took a nice win.

Didn't know Alaphilippe had a brother! Great stuff : )Contador is the Greatest0 -
Small but definitely not shoot, Vuelta a Burgos is in progress. Today was the queen stage and there is a nice winner in Astana's Colombian climber Lopez. After his strong showing in Tour de Suisse this year, definitely one to look out for. Glad to see my men Fernandez and Machado in the top ten.

Astana kind of crushed it though with three in the top five and now on every step of the GC podium.Contador is the Greatest0 -
A rider who I had high hopes for before Sky crushed him has won the first MTF at Utah and now holds the yellow jersey.
Dombrowski attacked on the final climb and then held off yellow jersey, Berhane, Schleck and Horner for a whole minute 17 seconds. 6th placed Pirazzi was 1.44 and the gaps get bigger. Specialist climbing team from Colombia are here but as usual are struggling. Very tough mountain stage this evening but I really hope he holds on.
Congratulations Joe.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Brammeier hit a car in Utah and is pretty hurt:

In Burgos, Moreno wins the final hard stage (7 climbs) and Taaramae takes the overall, congratulations to both. Quite significant time gaps. Lopez was up there but lost enough to lose the jersey and slip to 4th. Moreno takes 3rd overall and Scarponi (wonderful name) 2nd.
For those that watched Route de Sud this year you will be happy to know that Latour was mixing it up and took 3rd on the stage. Looking like a proper talent and definitely a rider to watch.Contador is the Greatest0 -
Tao is 13th in Utah GC heading into this evenings stage.Contador is the Greatest0

I know you are all dying to discuss what happened in a non Tour de France race but in any case:
Joe Dombrowski takes the overall GC - massive win. There were some gaps on the last stage but very few.
Horner all talk was unable to make a difference and ended up 5th on GC, Schleck 4th (both pre-race favourites; saying so themselves).
Final General Classification
USA 1 DOMBROWSKI, Joseph Lloyd (TEAM CANNONDALE - GARMIN) 28:06:48
CAN 2 WOODS, Michael (OPTUM P/B KELLY BENEFIT STRATEGIES) + 50
USA 3 BOOKWALTER, Brent (BMC RACING) + 1:05
LUX 4 SCHLECK, Frank (TREK FACTORY RACING) + 1:07
USA 5 HORNER, Christopher (AIRGAS-SAFEWAY CYCLING TEAM) + 1:09
AUS 6 NORRIS, Lachlan (DRAPAC) + 1:12
ERI 7 BERHANE, Natnael (MTN - QHUBEKA) + 1:22
COL 8 MARTÍNEZ, Daniel (COLOMBIA) + 1:41
USA 9 SQUIRE, Robbie (HINCAPIE RACING TEAM) + 1:46
AUS 10 MORTON, Lachlan David (JELLY BELLY P/B MAXXIS) + 1:50
Overall a very disappointing race. Supposed to be the hardest race in the US but those gaps are nothing over a week. Remove Joe's superb move to gain a minute and there is nothing between them.
Tao binned 1.44 on this stage but remains 13th overall. Superb result for him.Contador is the Greatest0 -
Frank Schleck showing signs of life as well..."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Dombrowski riding the Vuelta this year, interesting to see what he does0

Lach Norris deserves more hype than his compatriot, the glorified commuter. Another decent race for him.0

Gotta say, I love working with @JoeDombro. Very smart kid that makes his own choices. But he also listens.

Early airport morning heading back home to Nice. Up next La Vuelta. First grand tour. Excited about it.Contador is the Greatest0 -
Arctic Race of Norway tomorrow. Stunning scenery and atrocious conditions. ASO.
Hushovd was promoting it at Paris Nice. ASO owning both, this odd move now makes sense.
