Is it still bad? Do I have an excuse to go to the pub instead of riding home?
It's terrible, you'll surely die if you go outside in it. Tell your wife somebody on the interweb said so, it'll be fine.

As a cyclist I find the phrase, "It's all downhill from here!", supremely edifying.
Experience teaches you that most things aren't worth the effort. Chill out and enjoy. :P
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.

Early 40's isn't middle aged, no, that's somewhere in the 50's now!

    Personally I like R5 live.
    You are in denial.
Average male expectancy in the UK is 77.88.
    Mid age is 38.94.
It is downhill from there. Make the most of it.
You've forgotten that research has shown cyclists live longer than average.....

Also the midway point isn't necessarily middle aged, after all the middle ages are nowhere near the half way point of the circa 200,000 years man (homo Sapien) has been on earth.

That said I probably am in denial - until further notice middle aged is older than whatever age I am now, sort of N+1 principle!

Sorry to burst the denial bubble but as anyone who has had an accident will testify, your body does not recover as it used to.
Don't moan about aging. Accept it, embrace it and make the most of life.
Slow down and savour. Instead of racing to do 100 miles in 4 hours, take all day and have a pub lunch. 8)

I'm not moaning about ageing, I'm just doing my best to ignore it!

As for slowing down, not in my nature, I'll always push as hard as my body will let me!
