My friend is scared of flying (although she does) I tell her the most dangerous part of flying is the drive to the airport.

The above post may contain traces of sarcasm or/and bullsh*t.

So do I. But if you want a real take-off, go for a winch launch in a glider ... it doesn't last very long, but can get you up to 2000ft in seconds at a ridiculous angle of ascent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2Qh95I_YM0

Yep, I did a little over 30 winch launches when I lived in the UK. Loved it. Never kept it up when I returned to Ireland. Gliding is real flying. Exciting, relaxing, complex and simple all in one.

I think a lot of people are forgetting that the laws already cover this.
Confidentiality laws cover people up until safety of others is concerned. Your doctor can not discuss your conditions with anyone but if he believes you are about to harm others he has a duty to inform the police.

A doctor doesnt have a legal duty to report as I understand it; a professional one perhaps and a moral one maybe but this is complex territory legally and ethically.

From what I am led to believe, if you informed your doctor that you intended to kill someone he must inform the police. Harm apparently overrules the right to secrecy.
Likewise of you intend to kill yourself the doctor should section you for your own care even if that is against your will.

Sadly I only did the one day of 'air experience', but if I'd had the time and money it would certainly be the way I'd prefer to learn to fly. I've got a friend who's an ace glider and will spend hours up above the clouds. Gliders make powered planes look like elephants trying to dance ballet. Here's a rather lovely video of what you can do in a glider, near the Vercors plateau. (Incidentally, I think the road with all the hairpins is the ascent to Col des Limouches). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJpKrOGtVf8

Posted (and cribbed from another website) in the best possible taste.

In light of the tragedy of the German Wings crash, in the future I'm going to make sure I only fly in planes which are piloted by Scousers.

You'll never find one of them ripping up a sick note and going to work.

Having a go in a glider is something that is on my list of things to do,no engine noise only the noise of the air,so much like surfing in the sky
