    The problem is that you're training by heart rate which is always going to be all over the place. Don't worry about it and just ride your bike.

    As above, if you are training in HR zones - either use flat roads where you can manage your effort levels better, or just don't worry about it.

    If you have to climb hills while trying to stay to zones then you have to take it real slow to start with. But it can be done - just pay attention to what your HR is doing. It's pretty amazing how quickly your HR will respond to even the slightest of ascents. Just monitor it and back off it starts climbing.

    A lot of people complain about how boring\easy the lower zone training can be .. I reckon that's more because they don't give it a chance (just give up before their body adapts) and they don't do it properly (they wander in and out of all of the zones). My experience is that it isn't necessarily boring or easy but maybe that's just me.

    Whether you should be doing this kind of training is another question altogether.
