Agreed on Gillian Anderson, she is a fox and has aged really well. Unlike Clarkson!

First thoughts... Gillian Anderson looks fabtastic for her age, I can't believe its the same woman I used to watch on the X-Files as a young pup in the 90's. I still would... In the blue Lexus.
How does she still look good? She must be an alien shape shifting reptilian !

Scully was supposed to be mid-thirties, Anderson was in her mid-twenties when she played her.

I like how she changes her accent between American and British depending on where she is.

Sorry for the delay in posting back fellas, too busy being 'sad' and 'little'. Maybe we need a few more ghost bikes on streets. My mistake.

Maybe we need less drama queens. I watched last night wondering what the fuss was about and if I hadn't read this beforehand I wouldn't have even picked up on the throw away comment. I really can't believe that of all the stuff that you see and hear on TV that was worth the effort of complaining.

Looks like I'm the only one who thought along the same lines as the OP. I'm not exactly fuming, as you expect this sort of comment from these twonks, but I'm not exactly happy about it either. Its throw away "jokes" like this that lead to the sorts of oxygen thieves who watch TG driving dangerously around us cyclists. Replace "cyclist" with "black person" or any other "minority" group and see how funny you find the statement.

It isn't really the same, people choose to cycle, you can't choose your race.

Do you really think Clarkson saying a flippant comment makes a difference to how anyone drives? They spent about 10 minutes crashing Peugeots and driving badly, have you read of a sudden increase in people driving through fields and bumping into walls?

    it is cause and effect.

people don't hate cyclists because people make jokes.

BIG pet hate of mine: links to sites behind paywalls. One of these days I'm going to crack and pay something due to my overdeveloped curiosity, but for now it just raises my blood pressure still further...

I must confess I didn't see the bit mentioned. But as I was channel hopping Gillian Anderson caught my eye so I continued to watch, then the bit in Canada was quite picturesque so I kept watching. All this talk makes me curious and think maybe I should watch the beginning of the show. But I know how much it irritates me so I really shouldn't. Kind of like Bompington and the pay wall, curiosity may get the better of me but I'll be paying with time I will never get back.
Oh, Mr Bass's Ghost Rider comment made me think Eva Mendes. Then I thought Eva Mendes and Gillian Anderson. Mmmmmm....

I saw it too. It just dismays me really. I know its a joke - but then you see eedjits on the road buzzing cyclists and getting peed off at them being in the way - and thene comments like Clarksons aren't funny.

Apologies didn't realise it was behind a paywall, not sure how I read it as I'm not a subscriber and I can't access the link myself now! It was basically just a more detailed discussion of how ethical decision making will need to be built into driverless cars...I think so anyway can't actually check it.

I've not watched it for ages and was more offended by the fact that 'Top Gear' is a bit sh*t these days. The episode was just a crap comedy sketch with a couple of cars thrown in. Used to bloody love it.

That's gone and done it.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Clarkson is a cock and a fan of his own publicity. Top Gear stopped being about cars many years ago and became a light entertainment program with a comedy slant. Some of it can be funny such as Hammond's attempts at delivering a casualty to hospital or his verbal diatribe at being "abandoned" on a mountain in Cananda, but for me, Clarkson is such an odious character, I'd sooner an Argentine supporting Mexican in a LGV ran him over. Twice.

Do you really, genuinely believe that there is an element of people for whom Clarkson is such a Messiah they would deliberately run down cyclists on the basis of a (albeit not very funny) quip? The reason we have to contend with idiots on the road is that a percentage of mankind are idiots and a chunk of them drive motor vehicles. Add to that people get easily distracted and others don't understand the needs of vulnerable road users.

I ran a long thread in Campaign called 'The shoot Clarkson Campaign'. The title being a metaphor for poor drivers. Despite the obvious, I still got lots of complaints saying that there was something wrong with me for saying that I would like to shoot somebody !?! There's irony in there somewhere.

I don't watch TG (apart from that episode in Argentina, now that was funny) because it is such banal shyte and the 3 amigo's act like pre-pubescent boys in toys r us. It is so blatantly contrived, there's more fun watching In the night garden.
Complaining about TG and Clarkson won't change nowt. The programme makes too much money.

Yeah, i'm a little conflicted about this. I don't take anything that Clarkson says personally, because he's a berk being paid to say controversial things, like a shock-jock. So the OP's reaction is almost as laughable.

But, without question, his throw away comments can become rhetoric to the 'man down the pub' and thus the intolerance breeds and manifests itself in incidents like this: viewtopic.php?f=40088&t=13018851

Even my brother-in-law, a police officer, bragged once about how 'the game' is to pass a cyclist without crossing the dashed line.

Perhaps I am being patronising, but people are farking idiots.
