Top Gear at it again

During tonight's Top Gear, Clarkson, during a piece on driverless cars, implied that in the event of a 'ethical decision' between the death of the driver and death of another road user then 'cyclists' were the preferred option. I'm absolutely furious. I couldn't believe my ears. We pay for this idiot to spout this offensive trash that incites so much hatred toward us. I've just complained to the BBC and would encourage others who saw the episode to do exactly the same.

Clarkson is a caricature, hardly worth taking seriously.

    Seriously?

He was clearly joking and talking about driverless cars weighing up what to do in an accident situation. He wasn't saying people should mow down cyclists.

    Get over it.

James may also said he hates Gatwick, I expect the numbers traveling from there to plummet now

This sort of post is why I've stopped coming on here. Get over yourself. It's a comedy prog based around cars.

    Bollx. Now I've posted again.
  • Top Gear is an entertainment programme. It's very popular worldwide. It's just a bit of fun, not to be taken too seriously. If you're easily offended, don't have a sense of humour or just don't like it, don't watch it. ;)

Whilst I wouldn't have been shocked or personally offended there is a sense in which that kind of "joke" contributes to the lack of concern for cyclists some motorists display. It may even have been funny and still contribute to that kind of attitude.

whilst he was being funny, its a serious point, how many of us (in an accident situation)would chose to drive head on into a truck, and die OR mount the pavement, live but kill a pedestrian ? none.

However, i am writing into the BBC to complain about the destruction of those rare pine trees that were burnt in the making of last nights program.

Isn't the first law of robotics that the machine cannot harm a human being? So that would mean the driverless car cannot hurt us

but the conundrum was, if a lorry was heading towards a driverless car and the only escape route would mount the pavement and kill more people, would the car choose to kill the one person in the car rather than the many on the pavement?

It is actually quite an interesting point and something that will need to be built into driverless cars.

    Hell yes.

Back to OT: seriously? Given that all 3 are now known to at least own bikes, this was quite clearly tongue-in-cheek. I mean, do you really think their piece on ambulances the other week was serious?

FWIW, I think this series is a little too self-indulgent; apart from the ambulance thing (which was frankly hilarious) and the Argentina thing (no comment) it's been a bit self-parodying...

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Sorry for the delay in posting back fellas, too busy being 'sad' and 'little'. Maybe we need a few more ghost bikes on streets. My mistake.

First thoughts... Gillian Anderson looks fabtastic for her age, I can't believe its the same woman I used to watch on the X-Files as a young pup in the 90's. I still would... In the blue Lexus.
How does she still look good? She must be an alien shape shifting reptilian !

Interesting discussion of the issues here http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/4ab2cc1e-b752 ... tml#slide0 Raises the possibility that we may be able to have different ethical settings for our vehicles - so do we want it to save us at all costs or are we willing to take a hit from that oncoming bus in order to avoid swerving onto the pavement ?

I don't watch Top Gear often so missed this but it is an interesting dilemma. What is the timescale for driverless cars being seen on urban roads other than in small scale tests ? Even though we've put men on the moon my natural reaction to cars without a driver on our streets is "it'll never happen".

Sadly it happens all the time. The driver is there, one hand is on the wheel, but the brain is engaged in sending a text or playing Candy Crush Wakner.

Couldn't agree more, i think she won FHM sexiest woman when i was about 12 or 13 and is still amazing, I'm not sure if i was overly biased by my boyhood crush or not but i really liked her as a person too.

Not only did she look fantastic she came across as genuinely and extremely sexual as a woman.......

The tragedy is that people watch that sh*te. Funny? Not one bit. It's TV for people who tuck their t-shirts into their jeans and secretly want to vote UKIP.
