I'm not sure what to say really.

£80 for a short sleeve base layer - I'd be speechless too... ;)

  • It's not a jacket and you only do jackets...?

Converts yer £5 lidl top to a gabba which has an RRP of £160.

Pretty much a bargain in that respect!!

Seriously though, I think it's a great idea assuming it works

Seems like a good idea for racing in bad weather, assuming it works

I like the idea as well.

But it does rack up once you add the arm warmers for an extra £50 to make it winter ready.

Or you could get a Parentini Mossa printed in your race team colours

    Ooooh, now see umm.....

I don't know if this is the sort of thing I'd use or not. In the rain I kind of want a full jacket, I reckon using it under a winter jacket would not be it's forte but...ummm....hmmmm

Difficult to open up on the climbs when you're riding harder than you would elsewhere...:lol::lol:

Doesn't make much sense to me. The place for water repellency is the outer layer, surely? So your outer layers will still get waterlogged and potentially heavier etc.

consider that youre wearing your super tight aero race kit over the top though...

It would keep the wind and the rain off of your core which would help a lot with warmth

You need to read their description before typing opinion ;)

It's to wear under your race or club kit so you still show your race numbers and so on. It's also for people (like gabba wearers) who dont want a sweaty and flappy jacket.

It's for people who like to wear their normal (maybe nice?) kit and add 'gabbaness' to it - i.e. the ability to get wet but warm. People rave about the gabba yet that soaks through wetsuit style and people have no problems. This is lighter weight than that I would assume.

Not for everyone but a damn good idea in my book (if it works).

yep but you missed my stooopid joke - it's a baselayer meaning you wont see who's wearing it :)

I am intrigued by this also, it is a lot cheaper than the Gabba and it means you can wear whatever top you want. It all depends on just how breathable it is.

  • Currently I wear a base layer under my Gabba and stay dry and warm.

Am I right in saying I'd wear the (gabba ish) base layer with a "normal" jersey and stay warm but possibly wet?

Seems the wrong way round to me?!?!?

    What am I missing?
Still thinking of something clever to say!

A good base layer wicks away sweat and keeps you dry and warmer. Its only as good as the layer above allows. Even if the base layer is windproof the fact that the ones above it are not and exposed compromise its qualities. This means in reality you need above this baselayer.......a gabba.or at least a similarly expensive top layer.

...unless you wear a jersey so thin it doesnt make any difference if it's wet...

  • I think, probably, that this is intended to be the most pro of their pro collection. So, damp, wet, crit racing. Something that keeps you warm (?) underneath.

Or, maybe you can stick it under the not very effective Pro Team Softshell to make it that bit more water proof

I dont normally but I'm paid by Rapha in expensive coffee mugs to defend their products' to the death on forums like these.

Full time job I tells ya...
  • Well, that's interesting, here's Castelli's take on it.

Seems to be some sort of ultra lightweight forward facing Gabba esque jersey thingy.

I did read the description, ta. But I'd be willing to bet that a massive proportion of buyers will never see a race. Similarly, most 'race bikes' never get raced. This stuff is for consumers, Rapha know it, we know it. It's aspirational stuff.

Anyone bought one yet? Might nip out one lunch to the shop in Mcr and see what it's like. Those gloves look interesting as well - all this Castelli/Rapha marketing tosh to ride 30 miles

This could be one of the first race specific items of consumer gear that might actually make a difference I suppose.
