The spec I had had a little nubbin to stop the seat-post going below the cut seat tube, and then a little hole about an inch higher which you had to be able to see the seat-post through or the warrenty was voided. So you had a little adjustment but not much. I remember getting so frustrated as at that time (late teens) all i did was ride and one day we'd do a 40mile xc ride, the next we'd session dirt jumps (proper bmx style trails) and having to essentially have the same saddle height for both was a pain.

I love retro bikes, having about 10 at the moment, but all hardtails. All old FS bikes look like BSOs to me.

I like tractors! but not those bikes! I absolutely hate interrupted seat tubes though. Had one on an old specialized and it was so annoying having no option to adjust saddle height.

Super 8 is a downhill bike, you don't adjust saddle height on downhill bikes. Some xc bikes (such as Giant Trance) have pivots through the seat tube which limit saddle adjustment a lot worse than a short seat tube.
I have always quite liked these. Looks great and rides great. Without the short seat tube they couldn't have got the shock that low and kept the back end that short.

Yeah I'm aware of that, doesn't mean to say I like the design though
