I've used a chest mount. I much prefer the videos from that position to be honest. I find the helmet view always makes everything look really flat, the lower the camera goes the more sense of height you get IMO, but the bars position is just dreadful.

I've never tried it on the helmet for the reasons that someone mentioned early about weight. My friend rode around Llandegla this past weekend with a drift mounted up there!!

I have been trying different mounts and these are my thoughts so far.

Bar mount- the plastic mounts that come with the gopro make it shakey, not great, buy a one piece metal mount (£2 on the bay) far better results, not a shakey as people think, really good footage. Gives a real sense of speed. Only downside is the viewer has to move their head side to side a lot to watch when cornering fast on berms! Also mount it on the bars on my motorbike with excellent results. Advantages with a bar mount is the bikes suspension takes most of the impact away from the camera.

Chest mount - You get a lot of movement with the camera, not very steady for filming. Depending on the riding can be very hard to find a good angle, for example when riding a trail centre the view is ruined when standing up sprinting out the saddle on climb. All in all not the best.

Helmet mount - Good for a motorbike helmet crap for mountain bike. Unless you do your helmet up really tight the camera moves about way too much! Not very good footage, looks like you are riding at a walking pace. The footage you see online with the DH boys is better because the helmet is a full face and is a lot more secure on the head that a open face type.

One thing to remember is you are riding offroad on very bumpy surfaces with a very light bike it's never going to be great footage, and the faster you ride the worse it gets!
