How about one of these and use the micro sd card in your garmin to record data if you do not already.
Remove the micro sd place it in the usual adapter and use this device to send it to your phone.

The simple solution is to buy an Edge 810 or a 1000. Dippy doesn't appear to be short of a bob or two so as an exercise in stimulating creative ideas this thread gets 10/10, usefulness of other peoples time 1.5/10.

Sadly, I think you are correct. Despite hoping, I have spoken to an expert (and had advice from here) and there is no way of not breaking a rule. I have chosen rule three to break.

So, I now have a Garmin 810 arriving in the morning. I considered the 1000, but the 810 will do the job for me and I cannot be bothered buying loads of new outfront mounts as well.

A very well kept 800 may soon be hitting the second hand market.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

And AS, if you want to do something useful with your time, best to avoid internet forums completely.

I would do, but as you pointed out I am often (sadly) correct. So for the time being I'm happy to give the benefit of my experience regardless of personal cost.
  • I've been thinking of getting an 810 myself. Having just used a smartphone in my back pocket for tracking.

It's now a couple of years old, I wonder if there's a new version about to be released?

New version is already out - the 1000.

  • It's not really equivalent, being a lot bigger than the 810.

But that's the new one. No rumours I have seen concerning any other edge models imminent.

  • Last try from me, Suunto Ambitt 3. It will connect via Bluetooth to a smartphone which will update Strava via the Movescount App immediately after your ride. I think there is a similar Gamin solution. I suspect it's not much cheaper than a 1000. I can't speak for the battery life only having a '2' but that needs to connect to a computer to upload so does not meet the rules. (2's battery life is v good).
