Problem uploading data from powertap 2.4

I'm having issues uploading from my old-school powertap 2.4 (with the yellow head unit). The Saris device agent (7.7.5) doesn't recognise the unit (and the pc says an unsupported device has been plugged in) even though the display screen shows 'host' when it is plugged into the cradle. Power agent 3.0 recognises it is there but can't see the files on it. I've only started using this again recently (after some years off the bike) and I'd like to be able to upload these files to trainingpeaks, rather than just use them to hold the appropraiate power level during my commute! Any ideas (beyond bothering the trainingpeaks support people again)?
