I'm after a camera:
Looping Feature
Water proof
Battery life 1hr+
Helmet mounted
£50-£200 Max
Does anyone have any comment on the road hawk (http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/roadhawk-ride-r-bullet-camera.html) or Contour roam 3 etc...?
Thanks

This seems to fare well in reviews and comes in under £100

Give Mark at DogCam a ring. He's sound as a pound and will not sell you something that doesn't suit your needs. He prides himself on being knowledgeable about his products and his service. Bought my on board camera gear from him when I was racing motorcycles around.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -

Garmin Virb can do all this and is better in low light than Contour cameras plus the Garmin has a replacable battery.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
I got a Fly6 rear camera / light when they came out and it is great but a bit expensive
On my helmet I use a Roadhawk ride but the battery life is poor so a made a cabled backup mounted on the other side of the helmet and that works fine ( RoadHawk make one now )
Now shortly Fly 6 will be coming out with a Fly12 ? a front camera / light with a 6 hour life to match the updated rear one, so I am so impressed with the Fly6 I will be getting the Fly12 ? for the front depending on how its mounted it will be on the bars or the helmet

And the Virb has hardly any fish eye effect0 -
I really like the virb, it was my first choice BUT can it be mounted on a helmet ok? With weight being an issue?0

I don't find it that heavy and dont really notice, and looks much better than a go pro stuck up there.0 -
I just got a virb for £83 on black Friday and after a day you don't notice the weight, image quality is excellent and it has a looping feature also the slider to start recording means it's easy to switch on and know it's on with gloves and helmet already on.0

Thanks, any idea if the mio 505 gps data can be used with the virb or better with the virb elite?0
-
the elite has its own GPS data and wifi over the normal virb0
-
Thanks zx6man but if I went for the virb ( saves £££) can my mio gps data be used?0

That bit I am not sure about, I suppose its just fit (?) files that you upload to garmin. Not used mine for that yet to be honest as I use a the edge 800 for ride gps data at the moment

Even though I have a Virb Elite with GPS I turn the GPS off and use the GPS off the 800 on the bars, think it was down to needing to eek the battery out a little more on one ride. If your mio records a .fit or .gpx file I think you'll be OK, grab a copy of virb edit and get used to how it works.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -

That was a good deal, I'm gutted I missed that!!0 -
Thanks, I got one for the £128. I've been on a ride but my gps didn't log, even although I had it switched on? I'm not sure about ant+, I have the mil 505 so the virb picks up all the sensors ok but only recorded the heart rate? Again sensors are paired up....confused.com
On the plus side the footage captured was very good, audio as well. Bar teething problems happy with it so far!0 -
What memory card did you get?
I've gone for the £99.99 one but it hasn't arrived yet.0 -

I bought the 32gb card, after buying the helmet strap thought I'd spend enough!
Amazon Kingston 32gb class 10 for £11.380 -

Thanks for posting, impressive quality of footage. I am looking forward to receiving my Virb from Amazon hopefully in the next day or two.
I have got one slight concern, minimum recommended computer specs for the Garmin Virb
Edit software, did yours meet the specs, if it didn't you find uploading slow or problematic at all?0 -
kennygalbraith wrote:Some footage from the virb. http://youtu.be/wKqnewGUBic
Thanks - that looks good. I'm impressed with all the overlays, maybe I should have gone for the elite as well!
With a bit of luck my one will be here today.0 -
I received my memory card yesterday from that Amazon seller, but my camera hasn't arrived from probikekit. This is my first order from them, due on or before 29/12/14. No tracking information with the order and they say not to contact them for 14 days.
They don't say which courier either and I'm beginning to wonder if they use City Link!0 -
I had the same issue with a verb from probikekit. I realised after calling to speak to a pbk customer service member who let it slip that the item was being dispatched "from our other warehouse" which I understood was either there "thehut" warehouse or direct from Garmins fulfilment.
Pbk also use Yodel who were still recovering from the shock that some people had bought some stuff on Black Friday and may possibly want it delivered at some point shocker... So my speedy delivery actually took eight days to come!
But it's a great price for the virb, so I looked at it that you win some and you lose some.... I had it just in time for Xmas videoing of the grandkids going Xmas present crazy but missed a bike ride testing it.
PBK use of yodel is where I belive that is the real problem, it looks like they, Yodel ,are still creaking at the seams, and online Xmas and New Years sales might of again pushed them into panic mode and struggling to cope again. The tracking info was pitiful, non existent and quite frankly totally incorrect, giving me no idea where, when etc my parcel was for most of the week.
DPD, used by Amazon for a couple items ordered recently were spot on with accurate delivery tracking, you can even see where the van is! and specified 1 hour delivery slot... That's how it should be done!
Hope your camera comes soon mate. I am very impressed with mine for the price.0 -
Cheers - I'm relieved to hear it isn't City Link. I think I'll wait until Monday before calling them. I ordered on the 20th December, I was told very clearly I wouldn't get it by Christmas, with an on or before date of the 29th. It isn't the best time of year for deliveries, but I am used to getting a tracking number - even with 'free' deliveries.0
-
Well it came today, for anyone interested. Second class post, which explains the lack of a tracking number. Firmware updated, battery charged, but I reckon I need a helmet strap before I can do anything with it on the bike.0
