Forearms on tops and hip flexibility...

When doing longer tempo session on the turbo I'd like to be able to rest my forearms on the bar. When doing so I've noticed my right leg no longer tracks straight up and down but kicks out a bit, if I consciously try to keep my leg tracking straight I feel like I'm pulling on a muscle on the right of my hip (more towards the front side, but kinda at the side-ish).
Is this just a flexibility issue that I can stretch / yoga into oblivion or is it a fit issue?
I have the bike set up quite aggressively and get quite low in the drops but am perfectly comfy there as much as I have spent 2 hours in the drops alone and felt great. Can also ride on the shifter tops with elbows level etc fine but when forearms on tops I have quite a closed hip angle. Left leg seems absolutely fine.

Are you shifting forward on the seat when moving to your forearms? Its possible that you are rotating forwards from the hips which is causing your legs to rotate slightly in the hip joint, this will kick your knees out slightly. it could also be tightness in the shoulders or IT band or quads/hams which is causing you to throw out.
Shifting forward will help but it wont hurt to stretch the shoulders and IT band and maybe also the hamstrings in particular
Try the hamstring, hip flexor, glute & back options in this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WElIDKxmyQo
and the side and shoulder stretch in this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgEbH31FbWs
you'll get an idea of which is attacking the problem pretty quick.0
